Water-based pastels for color modulation. Clever, indeed. I'll deal with that over oil dots and thinner.

Thank you so much for your comment Bob. At AMMO we always try to offer the best solutions for all modelers, based on the combined experiences of our team. We think Lock 'N Load will be a great addition to any modeler's workbench, especially if they do not want to work with solvent based products, or would like to work without the long drying times of oil paints. The Lock 'N Load watercolor leads are not like standard watercolors. They are made from the best materials to be tougher and harder. This means they do not crumble or break easily, therefore they can be shaped to the perfect point as desired, using either the built-in sharpener or coarse sandpaper, as shown in the video. Their larger diameter means that they can be rubbed on texture for highlights or to add weathering effects such as soot or faded paint work. The high quality materials used to manufacture Lock 'N Load watercolor leads means that can be more easily diluted than other watercolor products, while also facilitating smoother blending. Finally, Lock 'N Load watercolor leads are purer than other watercolors, with fewer binders, meaning any mistakes can easily be removed without leaving a trace. Lock 'N Load can be used for more than color modulation, it is possible to achieve streaking effects, chipping, the metallic sheen on tracks and small-arms, to create filters, and much more. We hope you will get the chance to try them out. Happy modeling! Jamie, AMMO Team

Using water color pencils in scale modeling isn’t a new idea. I think what they’re selling here is the holder and colors curated for weathering (but to your point, if you already have some good water color pencils, a pencil sharpener, some sandpaper, some brushes and water, you are good to go).

Good afternoon, Thank you for your comment. As modelers, we should use the materials we are comfortable with, the most important thing is to enjoy the hobby. At AMMO, our goal is to provide the best modeling solutions we can based on the combined experience of our team. The watercolor leads included with Lock 'N Load differ from standard watercolors. They’re made with high-quality materials which makes them tougher and stronger, meaning they do not break or crumble easily. This durability allows them to be shaped to the perfect point or angle with either the built-in sharpener or coarse sandpaper. As they do not have a wooden body, these watercolor leads have a larger diameter, meaning they can provide a broader surface area for creating textures, highlights, and weathering effects such as soot or faded paint. Lock 'N Load watercolor leads also have superior blending properties, thanks to the purity of the materials used. With fewer binders than other watercolors, they are easier to dilute and blend smoothly. This purity also means that any mistakes can be wiped away cleanly, unlike some other watercolor products that may leave stains or residue. I hope this helps. Happy modeling! Jamie, AMMO Team

Great marketing. Model builders are very gullible. This is just a 4mm lead holder. You can just use watercolour pencils. You can even strip the wood from the pencils and load it into a lead holder.

People know what they are buying. For some its more convenient to buy just one thing from one place and no hassle, that's it. It's like washes, you just need oil paints and white spiritis. For washes, over diluted paint, so on and so forth. People pay for convenience and saving time. To each its own.

That is the most uber-engineered color lead holder I've ever seen. I'll stick with the 75 dollar weathering pencil set I bought from you for 50 bucks with a discount.

@Bob-b7x6v Nah….. No need to spend $75 bucks. Google Alvin drafting pencil. Look familiar? I think they’ve been making them for about 50 years. I have a couple I may have paid a dollar for each of them. The more things change….. the more they remain the same…..
