My washes? I've gone away from all the AK/Mig mixes and strictly do oil paint. I take old Tamiya paint bottles when they are empty, clean them out and add oil paint and mineral spirits. I also use Tamiya extra thin empty bottles for the washes I use more of.one has buff/dust color. One has black and brown together. Another has a shinier brownish color for stains. They are just a ton better for me. No more stinky liquids. Lol

Hey Will. Some of those ak/mig mixes can be very hit and miss can’t they? Although if I find a good one that flows well I tend to stick to it. Oils are a great alternative though. Thanks for helping me grow this channel 👍

I love the Tamiya black panel liner. One of the best things I like about it (compared to Ammo panel washes), is the pigments stay in suspension during your modelling session and you don’t have to keep shaking it as you go.

A great build and finish for this iconic vehicle Clayton. I have a bit of a soft spot for the ‘Jeep’, as I used to own a ‘42 Ford jeep many years ago. It was fully restored, and included all the original data plates and tools, etc. It was a fantastic little vehicle, and was able to go places that even a modern FWD would balk at. I carted that jeep all over western NSW culling wild pigs, and it only let me down once or twice. I got it stuck in a river once with water over the bonnet, and I had to get a tractor to pull it out, and when it dried out a little and with some persuasion, it started straight away. I loved that little warhorse. Oops; I have gone right off topic, but watching this brought back so many memories. Again, a beautiful job on the jeep mate, and cheers for now!

Great Job Clayton in presenting the Jeep! I personally built the other tamiya Jeep that comes with crew and a machine gun on top (plus a cart) and yeah it’s a beautiful build! I think that Allied (British and American I would say as I haven’t build any Russian models) hardware and figures (with the exception on the tamiya comet) are beginner friendly compared to axis (or really German) models because of their complexity. It seems that the complexity of the German engineers left its mark even to our hobby 🤣🤣 that has still remained historically accurate while the alllies have too remained historically accurate in a straightforward easy builds 🤣. Anywho, great model!

Wow,looks absolutely amazing Clayton! I have never actually built a Jeep in the almost 4 years of my modelling, which seems kind of odd to me now,but well,it might be something to consider in the near future.I laughed when the first thing you mentioned was decent side cutters,as I still use those cheap plastic grip ones you can find on amazon,so I might also have to invest in that. For panel line washes,I either use Ammo’s night black,or Tamiya’s Dark brown, sometimes using some kind of green one from Ammo (can’t remember the exact name).

3:32 you're talking about Tamiya Extra Thin but show a bottle of Tamiya Extra Thin Quick Setting. Quick Setting is a hotter cement than the standard Extra Thin and evaporates much quicker (surprise! 😅) & IMHO new builders should avoid it. @workbenchhobbies4316 I've got both too. I accidentally ordered the Quick Set thinking it was normal TET. 😄 Why Tamiya used such a similar green is beyond me - and I have perfect colour vision. Difference between the Jeep and the Hummer for civilians? The Jeep was left unchanged and it's ruggedness intact, comfort was not considered keeping the Vehicle for many years as it was during the War. The Hummer was originally left unchanged but added comfort for passengers was added, by the next Gen the Hummer was no longer the Military to Civilian vehicle kept intact and instead they traded the durability and key attributes in favor of a more comfortable and less military look. One of the most iconic vehicles even today though no longer produced, the ones made will last for Generations.

I have built a jeep before but it was a long time ago and I think I could probably do a better job now! Might go for the SAS version from North Africa, as for a panel line wash I usually go with a mix of blue and brown oil paint as it covers all bases pretty well, need a darker/colder colour? Curious if you go with MEK rather than the extra thin glue in a nail polish pumper with a hair brush, ive found it to be thinner again and hyper fast to dry. I guess theres also the fume fsctor, but when your running thinners in your paint, youd prob be running extraction fan.

A simple tank kit like a T-34 would be better for beginners than this. This has way too many fiddly bits for a tyro to cope with.

Thanks for your input. Appreciate there are a couple of fine parts, but certainly nothing too difficult. I felt the fact the jeep meant the beginner didn’t need to worry about tracks tipped the kit in its favour. Certainly appreciate others may have a different opinion. Thanks again for taking the time to share 🍺

Perfect? NOT ❌ Tamiya ✔ 1/35 ✔tooled around that mid-late 90s era ✔not too many parts so quick to construct ✔American ❌ Never been interested in American stuff. Like most people in ROW right now, I detest genocide supporting America so it'd never get bought let alone finished. A subject one is 100% interested & invested and so motivated to build is vital. ✔Substitute Tamiya 35224 Schwimmwagen Type 166 ✔PERFECT! ✔

Thanks for your thoughts. Happy for you to substitute a Schwimmwagen if that floats your boat 😉

you can immediately see the difference between an amateur modeler and a professional one who makes money from sponsorships in his videos: the huge waste of masking tape, even when it is not absolutely necessary (painting the rims)

That looks like masking tape for household painting, rather than hobbyist-labeled tape. Cheaper, much, much cheaper.

Money for what? Lol. A lot of modelers get their stuff because their videos are popular and companies like VMS give them their products so they get better coverage. It's a win/win situation. Everyone gets what they want. The vast majority of companies that give out their stuff don't expect anything back. They want their products used. And if there is any issues they can correct. If I was making videos on KZbin, I would definitely try and use free stuff.

No paid sponsorship here my friend. The tape is a painters tape from the local hardware store. $2 at most for a big roll. Have had it for years. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts 🏆

Hi Will. You are half right. I used to get given a lot of stuff through my ‘the modelling news’, but I don’t take it anymore and pay for my consumables. If someone does happen to send something for review you’ll know because I’ll do a review… like I did for the Atom paints and the VMS pigment jockey. But for the most part, what you see on screen has come from the hallowed shelves of bna model world 🤣 No sponsorships here at this stage of my KZbin journey 😜 Thanks as always for your thoughtful input 🍺🙏
