Hello! You likely won’t answer this since the video was made long ago but I just came across it and I’m wondering about the patina on the copper. Will it come off one a persons clothing or skin while wearing?
@JewelSchool Жыл бұрын
As you probably already know, patina is when copper turns green over a long period of time due to oxidation. This is a surface condition, meaning once cleaned, it shines it up like new. Most people love the patina that happens over time (the best example is the Statue of Liberty) and choose to keep it once it occurs. Raw copper that is used in jewelry can have the tendency to turn your skin green. You can do one of two things. Should you choose to keep the patina that has occurred on a piece of copper jewelry, you can coat it with an acrylic sealer (assuming it doesn't have ANY natural gemstones set it in it - you don't want to spray those with a sealer) to keep the patina in place and protect your skin. Two, you can clean it up with tepid water and a mild soap every so often, then give it a quick buff to keep it looking nice. There is a third option, which is to spray the "all metal" copper base of the jewelry with acrylic sealer before adding any stones. This will help stop oxidation and keep your fingers from turning green, if this type of metal does that to you. Hope this helps!

You do not tell the number of file. When you first hook the wire that you cut you waste so much wire. You do not tell which direction to use the flush cutters to cut the ear wires that you are using and the gauge for the ear wires, and sandpaper or file the ends of the wires so they do not cut your ears when putting them in !! Make it safe !!!!!!!!

@DebyNieto-kq2ci5 жыл бұрын
@@ninamcrae7295 Sorry honey, my mistake..with the quotations around the word class and I took the laughing face differently. If you cut the very end of your wire that you are making ear wires for with a flush cutter the cutter should have the flat / flush side towards the end not the outer side as the result will give you a very sharp jagged cut..practice on a piece of wire first. The end of your earring wire should be a neat flat cut then it can be filed smoothly removing any burrs by using a small fine diamond file or even fingernail file .,there are even concave cup burrs , you can find these on Ebay pretty cheap. The wire gauge you can use for ear wires is usually 20 gauge but you could use 18 for a slightly thicker ear wire or 21 - 22 for very small ear holes as long as you strengthen the ear wire on a steel block with light hammering when the ear wire is done. Sorry about the mis- understanding.
