A tutorial on how to work with multi-body solids in Autodesk Inventor, a nice workflow to enable you to explode a part file into an assembly. #Autodesk #Inventor #Tutorial #3DCAD #Design #Engineering #CAD

Nice video. My only complaint is the background music has a percussion sound that I kept thinking as someone tapping a pencil on their desk behind me.
@WolfManJammer5 жыл бұрын
I think the music is great! Reminds me of the underground world in Super Mario Brothers but with an 808 style 1980's hiphop/ B-Movie sound track. Hell... I might even find this track to zone out to while I mess about in CAD.

Very good stuff. Been using Inventor professionally for 10 years. It has a very broad spectrum of usage but my use is a very narrow spread. I'm rapidly going through these vids cos I'll be at Autodesk University and got my name down for a Certification exam. Thanks very much for such clear demonstrations. Jim

Thank you very much! What I wonder (Newbie) is, if I for example create plastic parts this way, how do I control mating tolerances and fittings for different productions, e.g. for instance 3D Print for Rapid Prototyping and same Part later on for molding? For instance with top/bottom part and lip features which have the same dimensions for the inside and outside part...

hey if I have an assembly and I am working on a part, and i want to make a new part from a solid body how do I do that? i tried to do it myself, but it only worked the way I wanted one time
@drafty01838 жыл бұрын
I really like your presentation style. I've been using AutoCAD for ages & am just getting into Inventor. You videos have helped enormously! The split & combine kind of translate to the slice & union commands in ACAD. I was wondering if there is a command that can separate the parts of a split solid body into separate bodies, like acad can?
@Neil3D8 жыл бұрын
+Drafty01 Yea, did I not do that in this video? I can't remember now. You use the split command and chose the option split solid, I think, that then lets you use a plane or face to slice a solid into multiple independent solid bodies. If I didnt do that in this video I can do a separate piece on it!
@drafty01838 жыл бұрын
+TFI CAD Tips The follow-on would be that the other bits of the solid you want joined back up, can then be joined up with the combine command.

Hi, thank you for a great video, as always. However I have a question regarding the way of dealing with a very complex parts. So, my problem is that when I am creating some very complex parts for injection modling, after some time it becomes something like a "spagetti code". What I would like to say is that when I am trying to change something or remove for example an extrusion, inventor freezes or sometimes even windows is crushing with BOD (after a last crush I had to reinstall the whole OS). What would you suggest to keep the flexibility to change something in the development process? To use multi-body parts and edit bodies separately or maybe to make an assembly from multiple "part's parts" and simplify it at the end? What is your experience? Maybe you could share some hints for designing the injection molding parts, but more like how to deal with it and what is the proper way of designing proces than an inventor tools? Best regards

maybe your pc becomes too hot, make sure it cools enough :)
@23chaos239 жыл бұрын
this will work great for making parts that will be 3D printed, but the part is to complex to print in one go. now i can break up my single parts so when i go to printing its easier to deconstruct them for easy printing

I posted this on an older video . Any chance of doing some Fusion 360 videos?These are great lessons. Never used Inventor but I am learning a lot that will help me with Fusion. Thank you
@Neil3D9 жыл бұрын
Ed Germain Yea I replied, and that makes sense now... I asked what you needed to know that couldn't be done in Inventor... but that makes sense if you don't have Inventor! To be honest I haven't used Fusion since it's early first build when it was part of Inventor, it's changed a lot since then and I actually don't know what it's purpose is as it seems very very similar to Inventor. I don't understand it yet and why it exists. But if it's a popular program that a lot of people use I might try getting into it.

What if I had a complicated design, that would benefit from creating parts together and then having them exploded into separate ipt files BUT I only wanted to make a rough sketch of the assembly this way to sort of see how those parts fit together, what should their dimensions be, etc. and keep working and polishing those parts in separate files? You know, because working on small things in a big file is hard but seeing how they change "live" would be cool. Sadly changes in the assembly-like.ipt file affect "children" .ipt files but changes made to "children" files do not affect the parent file.

Why is my part adaptive is checked but it's greyed out. When I edit the part all the sketehces are adaptive. Weird.

Is it possible to create solid bodies using Sheet Metal? Or even using the 'Split' command?
