PRO TIP!!! Each new desktop can have it's own background desktop picture. 2 finger tap on each desktop and choose a new background photo. Now when you swipe between desktops it gives the impression of a completely new workspace. I assign apps to only "live" on certain desktops. There you go, no extra charge.

Using multiple desktops can be hugely beneficial. I do statistical analysis and have a statistics program, editor, and document file open on 1 desktop, work email and finder window on another, browser, personal email and another finder on yet a 3rd. I used to use two monitors but actually find this more convenient. I am using a 27" iMac.

All those features are very powerful but yet can get confusing very quickly. Thank you for your explanations and then for explaining how to shut off the features that I don't need to use, which is essentially all of them. With all the different spaces/desktops on my MacBook Pro with 2 attached monitors, it's just way too confusing. Ok the bright side, my mac does work and it always works reliably which is something I can't say about my other windows machines.

The desktop items are the same across all desktops. Doesn't Zoom have an option for hiding desktop items -- or maybe it is another app that does. If this is a problem, I would consider keeping a clean desktop instead.

Hi Gary, Thanks for your great content. I'm a big fan of fullscreen desktop views. I was wondering if there's a way the mac can remember the set-up and when you start up the computer it launches with your preferred set-up? My go-to is: D1: My working area + browsing, D2: Things + Ulysses split view, D3: Superhuman (Email), D4: Fantastical + occasionally another space depending on what I do. Ps. I tried the Control-Click but it doesn't show up on Big Sur beta. Thanks.

What about a way to have different files/folders on each desktop, instead of all of them on every desktop. Is there any software, extension or trick to get that?
@macmost4 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't work that way. The files are actually in the Desktop folder. What you see on over the desktop background is another way to view that. Since folders don't work that way, it isn't possible. Maybe consider storing your files in Documents anyway -- that is what I recommend.
