we should remember that although people purposely use opioids to get high, accidental exposure to opioids can cause overdoses too. narcan saves every type of opioid overdose. not just ones caused by drug addiction. this technology is to save lives.

Can anyone besides a medical doctor correctly diagnose an opioid overdose? And how many people have an "accidental OD" due to "casual contact" with opiods? This idiot is talking about the "side effects" that can be experienced after using this "medication" and giving "healthcare advice" as if healthcare professionals - paramedics and medical doctors - shouldn't be immediately called and involved "post-treatment" and the FIRST RESPONSE to any suspected or even potential OD shouldn't be to "seek" immediate PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL ATTENTION and a "semi-conscious" OD patient isn't better than an unconscious, potentially vomiting one on his her back during and after "treatment" with this "medication". If a person is unresponsive, not breathing and/or has no palpable pulse the automatic "treatment" is CPR until professional medical care arrives. Unless the person has an open airway and is at least responsive if "unconscious" and is breathing "normally" even if "shallowly" and has any "paplable pulse" they do not need "emergency medical care" AND if that is NOT the case this "treatment" will be "ineffective" because the "medication" will not be inhaled and will not enter the bloodstream. And any time spent "treating" someone suspected of ODing will have been wasted and it will have no IMMEDIATE "effect". However when CPR is performed it can then be "ingested" and complicate if not prevent PROPER medical attention. You do not transport patients via ambulance "on their side" and vomiting during any sort of artificial respiration is an excellent way to kill the patient.

The nasal passage is an incredibly quick and easy way to get a substance into the bloodstream (hence why a lot of people snort their drugs). You don’t need to be breathing for this to work. The whole point of a spray is to SPRAY IT INTO THE NOSE. It does the breathing work for you. Narcan has little to no side effects for people that don’t have opioids in their system. If you suspect someone is overdosing on drugs, they’re likely overdosing on drugs. If you have to ask, it probably is happening. INSTANTLY spray narcan into their nose. CPR can’t do what narcan does: reverse the effects of opioids on the opioid receptors. CPR can’t fix the fact that fentanyl is literally stopping them from HAVING THE *ABILITY* TO BREATHE. Try CPR, administer narcan, and call EMS. Leave them on their side to prevent choking and vomiting. I know people who have been saved by this process. Educate yourself before you speak.

Idk about CPR due to exposure to one’s self. It happened to me. Luckily (but not really) I take prescribe opioids. So I have a tolerance for opioids but it almost knocked me on my ass. This was a total stranger by the way at McDonald’s. Ambulance got there and I was on my ass while he was in and out and they narcan me and I felt like I started detoxing within minutes and throwing up, diarrhea and goos flesh. I started feeling irritable and hyper anxious and throwing up a lot where I felt like I was going to choke on my own vomit. Finally got home shaking and cold as can be went straight to sleep. Apparently even though I don’t abuse opioids but because I still had it in my system it was detoxing me from all my opioids meds and the fentanyl that got on me from him from CPR. It was truly frightening.
