agreed, been using DSP plugins for a while through my DAW (logic pro) where I used my midi controller to switch the tracks in logic, but after a while the latency would increase to unacceptable level. So I always wanted to dump the DAW and use DSP plugins directly (because there is no latency issue), but I did not know how to set it up. This video totally helped and cleared things up for me so now I can use DSP plugins directly. There is one thing I can't do now though, which is switch between the plugins themselves. But that limitation is still better than having to deal with latency in logic pro.

i think what worked for me (currently trying this now but i felt i had to respond to this), it says in the user manual "There are some conflicts occurring in certain circumstance. Such as set 4 tones for a group, button from 1 to 4 will be unavailable for PC instruction mode. Set 5 tones for a group, button 1 to 3 will be unavailable for PC instruction mode. Imposed setting will not work. (Please follow the setup order that begins from #2 Bank Move to the end)" so just set "bank move to 10x" and the CC to PC command setting will stay if youre trying to use 1-4

I can turn them on and off but they will always just turn on in the default settings. But lets say for example i want my delay on with a certain tone and timing... how can i do that? like i said it will only ever turn on the default mode and then i have to do the resst on my laptop which kind of defeats the purpose of this foot switch.

Hey Chris, Thank you very much! When I tried this solution I used a valve pre Marshall with active speaker, and for band practice the volume was too low (and it's bad to have the volume almost at max). If you have to play something more chill than metal, maybe it can work for you! In the comment there was another guy with almost the same question, my answer still the same: try without, if it works for you good, if not buy a power amp :) P.s. yes neural dsp have really good sounds, if you want to spend a lot of money you could also consider the new quad cortex of neural dsp, in my opinion thats "the new axe effect" Cheers!
@thorstenthorben1963 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that no problem. Just make sure to turn on your Cab Sim again, else its going to sound weird. Im using the plugins into my active monitors at home, into active PA speakers as well as live into my ENGL rack poweramp and a Mesa box. I just tried to voice the left cab sim to use with my monitors and the right cab sim mic to use with our PA. Then you can dial it it so you get almost the same sound out of the 2 variants that sound closest to your real poweramp and cab and turn each on and off depending on what your playing over atm. Boom: most versatile rig ever.

Thanks! Amazing video. I have a question (forgive me for being naive) If you are using a Neural DSP plugin (lets say archetype gojira) which has amp and cab simulations and impulses, why use a power amp and a cabinet with this setup? Can’t you directly send the output from the interface to the mixer/console and then out to PA and stage speakers? What harm will that do?
@robinbressani3 жыл бұрын
Hey Aditya! Thank you very much for the compliment. Yes you can send the output directly to the mixer, in my experience the sound was very low with band practice! Furthermore on stage could be helpful to hear your sound (in case you don't have a monitor/the sound engineer is sleeping ahah) that could be hard to do without a cab on stage. To conclude I think that the cone of the cabinet is the last part of your signal chain and it's (in my opinion) very important to obtain a more ""realistic"" and better sound in general. Even though neural dsp have really good plugins that can be used without cab and it's right what you're saying, for my experience (for metal music/with a band) the volume was too low. Cheers!

I just got this same midi commander and I'm having issues making it work as shown in your video. The only difference I can see is that I'm using a THR10ii amp as my auto interface and when I have the midi commander on in cus2 setup, it does no appear in the audio settings in order to enable it. If I turn it on normally, it does show up to be enabled. Ignoring that one detail I'm able to set up key assignments just like the video but when i restart the midi device and enable it, they do not function. I can only assume it's because it's not enable in the auto settings from step one, but I cant? if the midi commander is in set up mode the only thing shown in midi input devices is the yamaha thr10 itself EDIT: moments after making this post it starting working. I don't even know what I did different this time but it's all good. Thanks for such a clear video on how to do this!

Thank you for the video Robin. I really appreciate your ability to clearly explain and demonstrate the steps needed to successfully connect, configure and control the software so it can be used on stage. I'm gonna hold off on buying either a Helix, Head rush MX5, Neural DSP Quad or the Fractal audio FM9 & try my laptop. Then of course Clone the laptop to have a back up before stage performances. After all one huge difference between a professional and an amateur in most cases is the pro has a backup plan when the amateur has his dick in his hand

This is a helpful video. And I love the tones. But the silence that occurs when switching patches is annoying and impractical. NeuralDSP support says it’s normal. Disappointing.

Yup, I also have an eleven rack that switches midi with a logic project, the silence between one tone and the other seems impossible to remove. When you play with a band it's impossible to notice, but yea, not perfect

Don't worry you can use a usb cable to the computer and It works just fine! I just think it's easier for an usb cable to disconnect on a stage, so midi it's more reliable for that
