Also if anyone is not aware there are adapters out there for about 10 bucks a piece or so that will swap batteries between manufacturers you can put a Makita on a DeWalt or Milwaukee on a Makita Etc

So many videos like this where they don't explain why the nub is there and what are the risks if you remove it. A big plus for explaining it!

I removed the nubs yesterday. Good point @finn about over heating. My issue is that I am often working remotely and want to use my tools all day but not for extended periods of cutting in one go. So, hoping I will not have too much of a prob with overheating.

Thanks for the post. Just did this and am able to use BL1860B-2 5Ah batteries for my BHP454 hammer drill. Drill works great and it sucks they stopped selling compatible batteries for it.

Thank you very much! I did the same with sucess on Circular saw BSS610, Grinder BGA 452, Reciprocating saw BJR 181, Drill BHG 45 with replacement battery BL1860B.

I did this trick years ago too. It worked, but ended up ruining every new battery I had.... Just like you said.

How so…how’d they fail?

I took a different approach and removed one portion of the little fins that are inside the battery where it slides in the tools socket you can cut out about a quarter inch and the battery will fit all tools old and new, tin snips work fine.

@@Finntheweekendwarrior , not quite. its easier to modify the battery which will now work in all my makita stuff. i've just been given a g series driver that wont work with any lxt batteries. i've only just learnt that makita made this handyman quality line. it has different batteries to a makita line of products that were once available at bunnings. so there are at least 3 sorts of makita batteries that grinding off tabs wont fix. i'm here looking for someone who has successfully hacked the driver to take the better batteries.
@vsvnrg32632 жыл бұрын
i worked out how to make the bunnings makita work with lxt batteries. the base of the tool has a fatter piece than the lxt tools. i just cut it down with a piece of hack saw blade and neatened it up with a narrow wood chisel and file. works fine. i was overthinking the problem. bunnings doesnt have the makita handyman range anymore.

My Makita drill driver is coded black 18V with no star on the bottom, yet the extra tabs are not there. It does have a random gold star near the serial number though.

Did the same with a makita Sawzall so it would accept the 2 amp/hour battery we had on hand, those batteries were never the same but it got us out of a tight spot.

I bought 7x 2ah lidil(parkside) batteries for£7.5 then 3d printed an adapter for my makita grinder... now I have plenty spare batteries for my maklidil grinder🤣

Is there risk to ruining the newer style batteries if I remove he my as one comment said? Batteries are damn expensive so wouldn’t be worth it if there’s a chance of killing newer style batteries?

Read somewhere that the battery protection circuit locks out the battery after these modifications when you put it on the charger. Anyone experience this?
@Finntheweekendwarrior4 жыл бұрын
No this is not true, but if you run a battery past a point the charger will refuse to charge. To combat fires from dead cells and what not. This is why I warn against not understanding the risk

I did this and burnt up my grinder. You owe me a new grinder as you never stated don’t try this at home. You actually said if I want to do it go ahead and do it lol 😂
@douglasbattjes39914 жыл бұрын
You said this is for over heating , a little knob on the tool, how does this tool know what bat you have in it? Rep said this is so they can sell new bats , others have a place you have to remove a channel so the silver bar can slide in. Why they have 3.0 amps and 5.0 amps,, they just last longer. you can replace the old Li bats. with 5.0 if you like so they will run longer.
@Finntheweekendwarrior4 жыл бұрын
The problem is this tool does NOT know what battery it has in it. Your rep sounds like he is talking out of his lane here. I have no problems with doing this and I have clearly done it myself... but to pretend that the tool has the same protections is false.
@robwilliamson91792 жыл бұрын
@@Finntheweekendwarrior Why is a higher capacity battery more likely to overheat the tool? If the tool has a fault, then the energy in a 3Ah is more than enough to melt it. Maybe 5Ah batteries have somewhat lower internal resistance than 3Ah - but surely Makita can't be relying on that as a safety feature? The cynic in me suspects the marketing department!
