For anyone trying to offset Ground tiles with the black hole method: as far as I am aware, it's only possible to offset them temporarily. Once you save your course, they will snap back to the grid (both collision and texture).

This reminds me of one of the OG classic SMM glitches that changed the properties of blocks (like an iceblock that acts as a ? Block)

Trust us, the level is corrupt if you don't delete that remaining horizontal track. We lost a whole Wagon World level that way.... :(

@@Ronan_SMM2 making offset blocks can be really finicky, if you end up accidentally moving an offset block, sometimes it corrupts, sometimes it doesn't. this also goes for keeping that track

Sometimes it doesn't let you make the hammer bro big if there's an obstruction nearby (i.e. a conveyor or the bottom of the level)

this looks like it is closely related to the current "easiest" black hole setup (the one which also uses hammer/sledge bro on a claw), this gets me really interested. is it known how these glitches work on a technical level? like3 what is happening in the game's code?

I've never looked into the code, but at a guess, it looks like a reference/pointer manipulation (e.g. like Stale Reference Manipulation in SM64) causing a delinking between the offset block and the track, which allows you to put the block in a state where it thinks its on a track (so it uses the track position) but the track doesn't exist to move it and then probably because the block is making references to a non-existent track, this messes with the code and causes it to skip parts of the code. Looking at how the glitch is setup, this is possibly how it works: The editor keeps an array of tracks in the level and starts with: [Horizontal Track] The track has a reference to the block that it's holding (contents = block) The block has a reference to the track its on (track = 0) Block Horizontal Track The first track is removed. The curved track is created and added to the array [Curved Track] The claw setup has a reference to the track its on (track = 0) Claw Curved Track Undoing causes the previous track to reappear and now the track array is [Horizontal Track, Curved Track] Normally the editor would fix references to the tracks so that they update to match the new track state (claw.track = 1) but the Hammer Bro causes that to break so it's still on track 0, but now track 0 is the horizontal track Claw ---> Horizontal Track Claw

@@Oshroth hmm thats cool how does the claw complicate things? also, why is making a hammer bro into a sledge bro required for the black hole glitch? another thing is that the old old black hole glitch from like ~1.0.0, where you use rails and blocks on the rails to bypass the entity limit, does not work anymore even if you boot the 1.0.0 game to try. maybe this glitch was fixed with a firmware update????

@@skyjumper4097 That I'm not sure of, but the Giant Hammer Bro in a claw must be corrupting the game state or the undo stack (All software that has undo functionality keeps track of changes usually as a stack or similar data structure) in some way

The Hammer Bro combo is breaking the undo stack/game state somehow because it somehow becomes non-undoable. It takes 5 steps to create the Hammer Bro setup after deleting the block track but none of those steps get undone when pressing the undo button 5 times (and pressing it the 6th time undoes the removal of the block track)

On/off blocks are too generic to make a tech video about. They are used just about everywhere for every purpose, so we'd struggle to show you how to specifically make levels using them.

Looking into the file structure, we've found that each tile can be sub-divided into 160 increments. So if you were to manually edit a level file, you could shift a block 1/160th of a tile to the right for example
