2 weeks ago in the BWCA I used melted spruce resin to attach a broken silky saw blade to a stick. Cut a notch in a birch limb insterted the blade then wrapped it with paracord innards. Found an old can to melt some resin and poured it over the lashing and let it harden. Suprisingly it held up to cutting some wrist size limbs for a nice fire. Now i have a primative looking saw as a souvenir of my trip. Good video.

over the weekend, I used some sticky resin as a dressing for a small cut until I got home. I'm honestly in awe at how much good medicine, like this, is just right there if we know what to look for.

My grandfather would collect and use it on the hay bailer belts to keep them from slipping. Kind of like store bought belt dressing. Great video. Hoping to see that salve video. Thanks.

I’ve been cutting into some pine trees near my house to try and get some of the resin. It isn’t working much for me, I’ve tried cutting branches and the body.

Are there any toxic resins to be worried about? Some conifers are more toxic then others when eaten so I am concerned if their resin is also toxic.

You can extract pitch from fat wood and still use the wood for tinder or charcoal (depending on how long it cooks). Very handy material.

May I ask why you use deer poop instead of rabbit poo? You still have the rabbits? Just seems easier to harvest rabbit poop rather than looking for deer poop. Hubby is in the logging industry and he asks for the fat wood logs and stumps when he sees them laying in the woods. I'm not good at making fires and that is a huge help for me.

Honestly, I knew all this, but I watched it anyway. Tons of useful info. Gotta say though, that the "l" in "salve" is absolutely silent. Just like "caulk".

@@Ollybus That's awesome. The person in the video was not from the UK. In America, people who pronounce words like that are most often college graduates with no education... Jus sayin.

@@jaredboballen68brother. I pronounce the l's in both of those words. Thats how everyone around me does it and I've worked in the trades for nearly 8 years. I live in the pacific northwest and I'm guessing that's just how our accent works. Yours is different, so you pronounce it differently.

@@THEDOOD32 I, too, grew up in the PNW, and still live/work here. The only people I have ever known who pronounce those letters came from way back east, and came out of college before they found manual labor more beneficial than a college degree. I've been in construction since I could hold both ends of a framing hammer off the ground at the same time, and I have worked in almost half of these United States and overseas in masonry, roofing, framing, concrete, truck driving, mechanics (cars, trucks, semis, heavy equipment, locomotives, ships), plumbing, sparktricity, etc., and met exactly 3 people who say those words incorrectly. You do you. I have NO problem with anyone who has a desire for creating anything with their hands. Maybe I'm just a grammar nazi. Guess it doesn't really matter anyway. Good chatting with you.

I tried making a salve with a 1:2:2 ratio of resin:castor oil:beeswax and as it cooled, it seemed to separate to a jelly-like substance at the bottom and a waxy layer on top. Are my ratios off?

1 Timothy 4:1-5 KJV - Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
