I just got one too a couple of weeks ago. I took out the two outside screws on the grate in the hopper and left the front two in. Now I can use the front two like a hinge and swing the grate out of the way giving me much better access to the hopper and much easier to change pellets and get out excess dust. Pork belly bacon is almost done so I'll just say, smoke on my friend and enjoy.

Very nice. The lawnmower really muted your voice. Nevertheless, you were very informative. Im presently shopping for a new pellet grill. My old Traeger finalky bit the dust and I am hesitent to pay them top dollar for another one. Pit Boss looks like a great replacement at a price point I can handle easily. Have you ever had problems with a stuck auger, I discovered it's a bad habit to leave a grill full of pellets out to the winter elements. Here in Oregon we have lot of moisture in the air in Winter and the pellets can bloat from ammbient moisture and jam the auger, which mens you have to take the assembly apart to clean it out. Best to keep the grill out of the elements in Winter. Hard lesson I learned.

I have a dumb question; I have a Traeger Texan that is too large for what I tend to cook for just the Wife and I. Can you tell me the dimensions of the grill grate? I'm trying to decide between this 700 and the 500 model. Thank you
@paulsq_4 жыл бұрын
Hey Edward, the main grill grates measure from left to right 24.5” and front to back 19.5” giving you a total of 477.75 sq inches of cooking space. The upper grate/rack makes up the rest to equal 700” sq inches total cooking space/area. I do believe on the smaller grill it’s only 456” sq inches of cooking space total, and it has a much smaller hopper on it. Hope this helps you out in making a decision.

I have the same grill and I have a couple thoughts. First, if you'll run the temp up to 475, you'll have better luck cleaning the grates. 200 simply isn't hot enough to kill the bad things that grow on a grill when you're not using it. Second, if you'll look on the lefthand side by the hopper, you'll see a little hole. That's for your probe wires. I saw you had them in the back. That works if you've got the wire for it, but the one in the front makes it easier.
@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment John. I clean the grill after every cook. When I pull everything off the grates that when I turn it up to high and scrape it off after 15 minutes or so of burning on high. I just scrape the grill quick before I cook also. I use the grill almost everyday so there’s no time for stuff to grow on the grates. I know the probe hole is on the left side by the hopper. I do use it when I’m using one probe. I just let the second one hang under the door if I’m using two as the ThermoWorks probes are too thick to fit through the hole together. I’ve been thinking of making the hole bigger and adding a WSM rubber grommet for the probes. Thanks again for your comment and the info you’ve given.

Hey Terry! It sounds to me like you might have a defective grill. I don’t have any issues like your saying and I know there is no timer on these grills. I’m not even sure where to begin troubleshooting with it as I don’t have the grill in my possession to see what exactly is happening and go from there.

Hi Anita, I’m not sure what happened with your grill. Maybe you just heard the fan running and the auger wasn’t working to feed the pellets to the fire pot. Or maybe you had a flameout and didn’t realize it, everything will still be working at that point except no flame burning the pellets thus leaving the fire pot full of pellets. If that’s what happened clean out the pellets before trying to restart the grill as all those pellets will create a good combustion that will throw out a huge flame. I know this happens from experiencing it myself with my grill and learned from my mistake. Hope this helps you out in some way

Paul Do you have any video on the P settings and what you use
@paulsq_4 жыл бұрын
I don’t have any video on the P settings. I use the default P4 setting all the time. The thing with the P settings is just the timer for how fast or slow the auger will feed pellets. The higher P5 P6 will feed pellets faster then the P1 P2 settings. Giving you less smoke on the higher numbers and more smoke on the lower settings. Once you change the temp from the smoke setting, the P settings shout off and the control board goes off the heat to adjust feed time for the pellets.

It’s just for easier cleanup. The foil serves no other purpose. The link below is a video I have on it kzbin.info/www/bejne/bovanKepapysfqc
@MrCjcav645 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul since you covered the drip pan to clean up easier do you leave the sliding pan off?
@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Hey MrCjcav! Yes the sliding pan needs to be left on, covering the sear zone or else you’ll just end up burning a hole through the foil cause of the heat from the open flame burning directly on it.

The stack is an aftermarket add on I put. I think this grill should have had a stack from the factory but they didn’t.

Out of those 2 I use the Pit Boss more. Only because it’s fast and easy. I use my Weber Performer the most out of all my grills. What has been disappointing to you with the Pit Boss?

I did get the smoke stack from Smoke Daddy. The vent holes in the back I sealed up using the foil tape that is used to seal duct work in a house. I never made a video on it or how to do it I can do a video just showing what I have done if that’s what you’re asking

I have never dissed like a grill more than this one.I start out and smoke and I let it catch fire and burn for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then I said it to the temperature. I said it to 300 degrees and it never reaches 300 degrees and the auger seems to stay on all the time. I have never had so much trouble with a grill.this is my first pellet grill and probably my last

Did you put tin foil at bottom of grill to prevent the tough cleaning or is the cleaning hard? I’ve noticed all the meat dripping would fall at the bottom and leave ugly stains. I just got mine, and came across your video. Trying to get some pro tips lol thanks for helpful video :)

@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris! You can’t use wood chips in these smokers as they are only made to run pellets. However you can use wood chips in a smoker box and put that on the cooking grate to get more smoke flavor in your cooks

Hey Jz! The pellet grills aren’t new, they’ve been around a few years now. There’s a huge selection that vary in price from high, mid, and low. It all depends what one is willing to spend on a grill

@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Hey Ahmed! You can never have to many grills if you have the room for them. I like having options for cooking as I use everyone for different purposes. I’d still like to get one or two more so I have all my bases covered. Do I need this many no. I could get by with just one but since I have the room why not.

hey brother, i saw the aluminum foil in the bottom of your grill. is that your idea for a drip pan? do you use a drip pan too?
@nealtaylor95855 жыл бұрын
oh, and thank s for the great video! i've never subscribed to any before. you're my first.
@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Hey Neal! Thanks for subscribing. The grill has a drip pan and and the grease bucket attaches to the right side of the grill. I use the foil only to make cleanup easier. Instead of burning and scraping the drip pan after every cook you just throw out the foil or leave it for another cook if it doesn’t have too much gunk on it. If you line the drip tray rite the grease will run off the foil and go into the bucket. I also use the foil bucket liners to make the grease bucket easy to clean. When it’s full of grease just throw out the foil liner with the grease and put a new one. Hope this helps answer your question

Paul, I am really enjoying the videos and finding them very helpful. I am researching grills on my way to get a new one. I do not have the space you do for multiple grills. I mostly grill chicken breast for my wife and steaks for myself. I would like to do brisket some time and ribs BUT if you were only going to Q chicken, hamburgers etc......would you use your Pitboss?
@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Hey MrEricturney! Thanks I am honoured you’re enjoying my videos and that they are helpful to you. It’s ok you don’t have the space for multiple grills not a worry. Having multiple grills is nice but you’re not gonna use them all as much as you would think. I would definitely buy the Pit Boss that I have if I could only have one grill. You can’t beat it for the cost and it holds a lot of meat so no issues of not cooking enough, due to shortage of grill space. I can easily fit 6-8 racks of St.Louis cut spare ribs, 2-3 full packer briskets size depending. 4-6 pork butts. This would be using the main cooking grates and the upper cooking grate too, just to give you an idea of the grill space. If you have any further questions about the Pit Boss feel free to ask and I’ll help you to the best of my knowledge on it.

Great grill!! FYI - do not use foil to catch grease!!! When I did it caused a fairly large fire from the drippings,ruined the paint (bubbled up), and it also causes the heat to back up into the hopper, and almost caught the pellets on fire in the hopper.. yikes!!! :/ they smoldered, so no disaster, but if they catch and you are forced to douse the fire, you'll ruin your grill. I got lucky this time, so word to the wise: don't use foil to catch the drippings!!!!
@paulsq_5 жыл бұрын
Hey Kellen! These grills are great. I’m sorry to hear about the mishap you had. I don’t use the foil to catch the grease I simply run it over the deflector plate and follow the same shape so the grease runs across it and goes to the grease bucket. I’ve been doing this for over a year now and haven’t had any issues with this method. Maybe you didn’t line the deflector plate correctly and had the grease buildup causing a fire.
@jamesonkeller83395 жыл бұрын
@@paulsq_ ahhhh. That's probably where I went wrong! I didn't make sure to press it against the drip plate. So others... Learn from my mistake, and follow Paul's method to make sure the grease follows the curve, press the foil down against the drip plate, and drips down to the channels and bucket. Next time I'll make sure to be diligent about this!
