Great! I'm debating dumping my Adobe subscription and using Photos in conjunction with either Affinity Photo or ON1 Photo Raw. Now I know how. Mobile is still an issue. For now, I've been using RAW Power.

Ok first of all. Thanks for doing these videos on Apple Photos. I frequently access Luminar (and others) from within the Extensions option within Edit. For apps not available there, I then use the Edit In... option you are hi-lighting in your video. Having said that, I don't understand why the Edit In... for Topaz apps isn't working for you. I have used Gigapixel, DeNoise and Sharpen many times and they have always worked for me. If you send a RAW file it will send a TIFF to work on but it always comes back with the non-destructive changes applied. Also I have not had any issues opening any of my DNG files in Photos so I don't get what is going on there. Personally, the only images I can't open in Photos are "compressed" RAF files from my FujiFilm camera so I shoot uncompressed in camera.

Under the image tab, the “edit in” does work with Affinity Photo. After editing in Affinity just hit save and the photo is just as you edited it in Apple Photo. I do keep all of my photos on external hard drives and not in the Apple Photo so they are referenced files in the application.

Great video. Makes you think, not whether, but rather when these apps will replace the pro tools like C1 or LR even. Not meaning PS or Affinity, guess a raw converter will never replace a pixel editor. On a general note, the image->edit with option works on my plug-ins, however they don't allow "round-tripping". As you mention in your video, you need to "edit" then hit the extensions button. Those work fine. Keep the series up and fill the play-list!

Do you need to download the apps before they show under extensions or do they come already installed with Apple Photos?

Great video! I don't have any issues importing DNG files. They show up in "Recents" under "Library" in the side panel. They also show up in a smart album I call "Photos not in any album" which I created as "Album" "is not" "Any" in smart album rules.

Thanks once more for some great tips and guidance. Very interesting especially for people like me looking to leave the A space. I wonder if Luminar Neo will be compatible as a plug-in hope so, Neo is a serious contender for me along with Aurora for HDR.

Have you had any luck with using PS with Apple Photos? I've tried using the program External Editors to link up with Photoshop via the extensions support, but I cannot get it to consistently hand Photoshop the RAW file...it sometimes hands a JPEG. Photos is so much better than Adobe's syncing via Lightroom Classic and the mobile apps, but I do need Photoshop on occasion.

The only reliable way I have found to edit a raw image in photoshop is to use the external editors plugin. I end up having to export the final photoshop file as a tiff or jpeg on the hard drive and use external editors to replace the image from disk.

Can’t find APPLE PHOTOS app anywhere. Not in the Apple App Store. Does it only work on iOS devices, or can it work with Windows 10 desktop??? Help…..

Greg Photos is Apple devices only and is preloaded with the operating system.
