Can you put a sealer on your tumbler and place a decal, before you adding a second layer of polycrylic?
@contentchase26414 жыл бұрын
I have never done it but because the glitter is still rough you would need to put a coat of epoxy or a think sealer before adding a decal
@Shyeena4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I ALWAYS seal my base coat with polycrylic BEFORE i apply my designs! I use ACRYLIC paints for stencils and if I make a mistake, i can wash it off and not worry about ruining my base coat. So seal your base coat FIRST with one layer Polycrylic; then emboss, paint, and even place stickers, or glue small clay creations or any embellishments directly onto the Polycrylic base. Finish off with 2 more thin layers of Polycrylic. Let "cure and harden" for a week before daily use. Polycrylic is actually an amazing "base"!

I never have to do a second layer of glitter when I use my epoxy to apply glitter. I just thought this would speed up the process. So does the polycrylic not work as well as epoxy?

If I use minwax polycrylic do I need to seal with epoxy afterwards?

What brand name polycrylic do you use? Have you ever used mineax polycrylic to seal the tumbler?

So polycrylic can be used instead of the modge podge and seal with e6000?

I'm doing a peekaboo where the 2nd layer is glitter. How long would I let it dry before pulling the vinyl off to reveal the base layer?

How long do you wait before doing a second coat?
@Shyeena4 жыл бұрын
My experience - 24 hours if you want to be sure the first coat doesn't star to lift and cause an ugly "gooey" mess. Although it feels dry to touch, it takes a long time for it to "cure" and harden. Read the directions of your product. I have applied the second coat within 30 min, but the key is to work quickly! Use a brush made for stains, varathane, polycrylic, and other top coats. I don't like to spend the money but I've found that spending the $10 for my brush designed for top coats is worth it. It lasts a lifetime if you wash it well with warm, soapy water. So if you apply your second coat when its dry to touch, *_ONE stroke pass over one area... because if you repeat too many times over one area, your first coat "releases" and starts to gump up._* If it does happen, wait 24-48 hours, then sand down the imperfection, clean off the dust, then apply again. I've also found that Polycrylic dries smooth as it does level out and brush strokes disappear. I love the product and have one coat "sealed" my furniture that I painted with "chalk paints" before i paint a design with my Acrylic paints! This allows me to make design mistakes and clean the area with water without ruining my base coat! I've even changed my designs entirely if i decided i didn't like it. I just wash it off and start over. When I'm finished embellishing my furniture, i apply 2 more Polycrylic seals.

Could you use a spray polyurethane instead of a brush
@beebeej14 жыл бұрын
Can I put this on my tumbler then sublimate it?
@lachondranevins86703 жыл бұрын
No...these are two different methods. the Sublimation can't be done on top of this. You can do a waterslide or printable vinyl.

can you use poly to finish a cup? if so can you do a tutorial
@contentchase26414 жыл бұрын
you can't use poly like epoxy but it works great for glitter
@Shyeena4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! But i do not apply Polycrylic "inside" your cup because anytime polycrylic stays wet for extended periods, it will start to deteriorate and that's not good for your health. I spray painted the outside of several white tumblers then applied one polycrylic overcoat. I let them "cure" for 24 hours and then painted a Dragon using Acrylic paint. I added some embellishments - clay and lettering stickers. Then sealed all with 2 more coats of Polycrylic. Just remember: Not Dishwasher safe or, *Soaking* in hot water! You can hand wash with hot water, and then dry but never lay in hot soapy water for an extended time! If you do, it will peel off. I seal most all my creation with Polycrylic, especially furniture, because it allows me to seal my "base color" (usually CHALK PAINT) and then Stencil with Acrylic paints. The beauty is that if i make a mistake, i can wash it off without it ruining my BASE COLOR COAT! Remember that "feeling dry" is not an indication of "cured". The longer you allow it to "set" undisturbed, the better. Most top coats of ANY kind take 10 days to cure, but you can embellish or paint over it in a couple hours. I used Polycrylic over my brown paper bag flooring in my bathroom- its hard and durable, resists scratching and marring, IS WASHABLE. The only key is "NO SOAKING WET, SITTING IN HOT WATER FOR LENGTHY PERIODS (hours).
@kristi2154 жыл бұрын
Shieena Living Waters I agree with you. But what about like Minwax polyurethane?
@Shyeena4 жыл бұрын
@@kristi215 that's definitely "more durable" and "water proof!" The negative with it: Polyurethane tends to YELLOWS over time so It doesn't age well on our "pretty crafts". However, if i do an outside yard statue, and yellowing isn't going to affect the esthetics, i will use it to withstand the elements longer. And, I would use it on Wood furniture or flooring, but not crafts. Its a fine top coat so personal preference! Theres a video on YT Comparing Top coats. It might help you. If i find a link, I'll be back to drop it.
