Hello Flosstube! We are two sisters who both love to cross stitch. Subscribe to get our videos in your feed every week.
On our channel, we share tutorials (like this one) on Thursdays and our personal stitching on Mondays (Flosstube episodes).
In this short beginner cross stitch tutorial, we discuss how to use Q Snaps for cross stitch. I start with how to load a Q Snap, how to unload a Q Snap, and how to load Q Snaps with excess fabric or not enough fabric.

You guys do the best “extras”. They are always just what I didn’t know I needed to know.

I’ve been using q snaps for years. I bought the q snap brand when they first came out. Now I buy the ones from Hobby Lobby and very happy with them. I mix the sizes to get a rectangle.👩‍🍳😘

😘This is the flosstube I needed when I returned to cross stitch and started using snaps. 😂 I really struggled with getting the first clamp straight with the grain of the linen. Laying the snap on a table with the top of the fabric lined up helped (I can now just do it in hand, so you do get better at this) One thing I've found is that you need more space between the edge of the snap and your actual stitching area, than you do with hoops - because the snap is higher or taller than the hoop. I fall into the "always use a felt layer" (especially if the snap is over stitches) group. I have rectangular felt pieces (white - so no risk of colour bleed) about 1/2 inch larger than the clamp. This also helps get the clamps off - when they are new they can be really, really tight. They will loosen up with wear. I've actually had to dismantle the snap and slide a bar out, because I just couldn't get the clamp off 😂 Finally, if you're like me and try to just get that last stitch in - and you don't have enough thread to both thread the needle and finish off - slackening off the snap clamps as much as possible (twisting to loosen), usually gives you enough play in the fabric to preposition your needle through the stitches on the back, and then thread it and pull it through. Of course, you may not play thread chicken 😂i

If you really don't have enough fabric margin for the qsnap - you can sew on an extra strip of sturdy calico. Same solution for adding extra margin for stretching for framing. You don't *have* to - but it's a solution if the short margin is bugging you.

I use felt or cut up Aida if I'm covering stitches.

I also do top, bottom & then sides, fabric goes on better, more even. I don't fold in my excess fabric in, If there is a lot I shove it into a grime guard. I feel it might stretch out the clamp space. I slide my Q-snaps off, if they are over stitching I loosen the fabric tension then slide. I might try the Wonder Clips on my next project. 🪡

You have no idea how long I struggled putting these together, attaching 3 corners together and then trying to fiddle the last corner in, before it occurred to me that you can put 2 corners together, the other 2 corners together, then the 2 halves.🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

🫰I use felt with all of my qsnaps like I use ribbon with Nurge and hoops. For safety of my stitching.

Great video! I also love Q-snaps but recently discovered Nurge hoops and I just LOVE them. I am not sure if you take "how to" requests so I apologize in advance if this question is presumptuous, but do you have any tips/tricks for completing confetti stitches? I am aware of a pin stitch start but I must be doing it wrong b/c I feel like I can still see my pin stitch when I use it for a confetti stitch. What tips do you have for confetti stitches? 🤌💋
