What adapter are you using on the Rode Smartlav +? Is it the SC3 with the 2 black rings?
@TurtleMarathon2 жыл бұрын
So am I to understand I can't use two of these rode lav mics at the same time by putting them into channels 1-2-3-4 with a 3.5mm to an XLR female adapter? Because if so... these are an automatic need-to-return for me. Which sucks. I've tried a bunch but hopefully that SC3 adapter will work with the 3 foot 3.5mm to XLR female adapter. Because... I'd hate to have wasted all this time on these lavs.

Have you tried connecting your Rode SmartLav+ to your Zoom using the Rode VXLR adapter with the SC3 adapter?

@@MikeMurphyCo I will try that. I’m in the early stages of troubleshooting, which are of course the most frustrating stages. @@TurtleMarathon What are you using the Lavalier mics for? Why do you want to use Lavalier mics instead of mics with XLR cables?
@TurtleMarathon2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeMurphyCo so I’m slowly, but surely building, what I think approximate a film crew but in the meantime, I have some opportunities to film interviews. I have a zoom h6 and a mxl-4000 that I have primarily used for vocals in music. It’s a cardioid microphone that has the option for a room And 2 way microphone but performs pretty poorly unless it’s in the cardioid configuration. I really like the zooms XY microphone head for the unit, but with a multi camera set up filming subject and interviewer I’m not particularly confident in that performance to capture both. There are some pretty fantastic plug-ins that could boost and clean up the sound, but ideally, I want both the interviewer and the subject to be in frame on two different cameras, within five or 6 feet of each other so that both lavs go directly into the zoom for easy post-alignment. Entering into this new field. I am just trying to save myself as much time in post production as possible- without breaking the bank and going the wireless Lav route or the senheisser mke 600 shotgun route (although both are on the wishlist for sure.) all in due time. Until then- I’m trying to live by the “they can forgive missing focus or noise in the image- but bad sound is a sure way to get them to skip your video” mantra. Long mantra. But a general truth I think.

@@TurtleMarathon Video + audio is always a challenge, but take your time and build and refine as you go. You don’t need to get it all perfect before you start. Try with what you have and figure out how to make it better or what you need as you go. The fun part is the trial and error process and getting better each time. You’ll get it. 👍🍀

Will the Zoom Recorder + Lav Mic improve the overall audio quality compared to just using the Lav Mic plugged into an iPhone?

Hi Mike, can I use two Rodelink wireless lavs with the zoom h6? Thanks for your help.
@MikeMurphyCo6 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yes, you can with a couple of Rode adapters. The Rode SC3 would plug into the Zoom H6 as noted in the video. The Rode SC6 splitter would plug into the SC3 allowing you to plug in two (2) Rode Smartlav + microphones. Rode SC3 (TRRS to TRS): amzn.to/2x0iV4c Rode SC6 Splitter: amzn.to/2Cz1CNV Sidenote: Rode also makes an interface (Rode SC6-L) for 2 Rode Smartlav+ to use with an iOS device that looks pretty handy, but I have never used: goo.gl/NUfQ5s Good Luck

Hi Manu. Thanks for watching and for the comment. I think I understand what you are trying to do and I have to answer cautiously as I just tried to test the solution for your question and I discovered that my RODE SC3 adapter is not working (big bummer). I tested several scenarios and all tests showed the SC3 is damaged so I was unable to verify that it would work, but I pretty certain I have done it before and that this will work, but you will need adapters for each Smartlav+: Plug each RODE Smartlav+ into a RODE SC3 adapter (TRRS female to TRS male) Plug SC3 end into RODE vXLR adapter Plug XLR cable to any input of your Zoom recorder Turn Plugin Power off Turn on Phantom Power (start with +12 voltage and see if you get good sound, if not try +24 and then +48...Wish I could test for you, but I need to get a replacement SC3 first) RODE SC3 adapter: goo.gl/P0QuV0 RODE vXLR: goo.gl/NdEqgf Let me know if you need further help. Cheers!
@jmanuelgtez7 жыл бұрын
Hello Mike, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my comment. I figured it had to be something like that. It's really bad that you have to use two adapters to be able to plug the lav mic into their XLRs. Sad to hear about your SC3! Have a good one!
@MikeMurphyCo7 жыл бұрын
Manu Garcia sure thing. Rode makes a splitter for Smartlav+ (SC6) to plug 2 mics into smartphone and I suppose it should work to plug the SC3 to the end of splitter and then use vXLR. Wish I could test that for you since I own all of the adapters, but the SC3 is definitely dead. I would only do this in a pinch as using so many adapters and splitters will likely introduce static or noise, but fun trying. Good luck.
@RoxanneDarling7 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I want to do also. Did you get this working, Manu? If so, what settings did you end up with Phantom Power? I have the SC3 splitter but I want to be able to record each mic separately, so I think I'll try to two SC3s and 2 XLR adapters. Thanks!
@MikeMurphyCo7 жыл бұрын
Hi Roxanne, I still have been unable to test the setup (now I feel like I really need to get the fix). I would love to hear your results, but I do want to caution you as splitters and adapters are not always reliable and can be finicky. But on the other hand, you may have exactly the results you want. Keep me posted and if I get the fix this week and beat you to the punch, I'll let you know. Best, Mike

Well I spent all day trying to get my new Smartlav+ using the SC3 adapter to work with my Zoom H6 and it just wont?
@MikeMurphyCo7 жыл бұрын
Hey there. I will try to help you. Just verifying: Rode smartlav+ plugged into SC3 SC3 end plugged into Line In on the Zoom H6 stereo x/y mic attachment up top. In settings> plugin power turned on. If everything looks good, next step...really press in the SC3 adapter to the smartlav side and press it in really hard to the Zoom. I've had many times where I thought the mic was plugged in all the way, but needed one more push. Try that first. Then verify the mic is working good with your iPhone just to be sure there is no issue with the mic.
@pixmoproductions92077 жыл бұрын
Mike Murphy Co tried as you suggested about pushing the plug in further still no joy 😭 works on my iPad even with the EC3 adapter on as well. Plugged my sennheiser me2 mic into the zoom and it works fine except for the screw in collar that stops it staying in the plug lol. After seeing your video I travelled to my local sound store and bought the Rode Smartlav+, SC3 and a 10 meter Rode extension cable cost $108AUD. After trying it when I got home, no joy, so went all the way back and none of us could work out why. So ended up buying a cheap AudioTechnica lav and still have the Rode stuff 😂 at least I can record my video tomorrow with my EW100 G3 and a $39 cheap wired lav lol Thought I could save some money and should have just bought a Rode wireless lav kit or another sennheiser lol

PIXMO PRODUCTIONS that's a bummer. It should work. Just be sure: The plug that is going into the Zoom line in port should only have 2 black rings (trs) around it. If it has 3 black rings (trrs) it will only work with an iOS device.

Hey Mike, I have a Micro 4-third camera and a Zoom H6, question If i were to connect my Zoom H6 microphone into Camera what type of cable TRS/TRRS that I should use ? I'm a bit confused here, please help ! thanks
@MikeMurphyCo6 жыл бұрын
Brain Massage ASMR I would confirm with B&H for your camera model, but this is the cable I think you want. You plug one 3.5 mm into your camera input and plug the other 3.5mm into ZoomH6 Line Output and there is a headphone jack so you can monitor sound going into camera. You’ll probably need to turn camera mic levels way down, but you’ll be able to use any mics with Zoom H6 into your camera and record into H6 as a backup or reference track. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/906960-REG/kopul_ach4_25mon_line_to_mic_attenuator_cable_with.html Hope that helps. 👍
