Hi, I loved your video on the H^. Do you have any comments or suggestions on the fact that there is a very wide-spread trouble being reported of the H6 on the web ... the buzzing sound in the XLR mic inputs. The XLR ports have the buzzing even when no mic is plugged into it and the H^ is set to original factory settings. Any ideas....? Are there just some faulty H6's on the market. A lot of talk about this difficulty on the web.

I can't find much info on using the Juiced Link Riggy with the Zoom H6. Can you explain how those two are connected using the Rode NTG-3. I have both the H6 and the NTG-3. Was curious on the setup involving the JuicedLink
@BryanDumaguina8 жыл бұрын
This is how I understand it. He is probably using the Riggy Assist RA-222. As JuicedLink Preamps are most probably cleaner sounding than the preamps of the new H6. He sets the Left and Right gain of the RA-222 at a similar level. He THEN engages the -16dB PAD on the Right Channel so that in case a signal comes in too hot, the Right channel will be 16 decibels less than the Left channel. The RA-222 has an unbalanced STEREO mini jack output. He would probably send this signal (via an 1/8 inch jack cable) to the MIC INPUT on the back of the H6 XY Mic capsule. He will then have the ability to record in stereo (technically a DUAL MONO file, where the Right channel is 16 decibels less than the Left channel), his boom/NTG3 mic to the LR tracks of the H6. Leaving him 4 more tracks for lavaliers. You may find the diagrams here: www.juicedlink.com/collections/riggy-assist/products/riggy-assist-ra222

Hey dude! Sorry i'm a bit late responding here. I stumbled on that bag at a camera shop here in LA and snagged it just cause it was super cheap and had a harness - if you're looking for quality, your best bet is to grab an orca or a k-tek bag. Both brands have an awesome reputation among sound mixers. I use an orca 32 these days.

hey, im wondering how much justin relies on the pre-amps in the H6 or does he use most of the amplification on the Juiclelink? before it enters the H6? like a 80-20% split? best regards
@LiveUPMedia9 жыл бұрын
+kdx films basically if you have the juicedlink - does it really matter what the preamps are like in the recorder? :)
@willvarner28898 жыл бұрын
+kdx films my professor said he turns his pre amps up
@BryanDumaguina8 жыл бұрын
I believe with the JuicedLink (and an unbalanced stereo output through an 1/8 inch jack) - it will depend where you send the output. If the output is sent with an 1/8 inch jack cable to the MIC INput behind the XY mic capsule, then the preamps of the H6 would have been bypassed. If the output is sent using an 1/8 inch jack to XLR cable to any of the four combo jack inputs on the H6, the the signal will be colored by the preamps of the H6. From my understanding of Zoom products and its preamps (and please correct me if I'm wrong), in order to bypass the preamps, use a quarter inch jack. So if the output is sent using an 1/8 inch jack to 1/4 inch jack cable to any of the four combo jack inputs on the H6, then the preamps would have been bypassed once more.
@Timkylephotographyblog8 жыл бұрын
+Bryan D I found this not to be the case. I just did a review of the juiced link, h5 (same preamps) and SD mp1. The 1/8 mic in does allow you to set the pre at a much lower gain, though.

What’s a good bag/harness for a sound recordist?
@VINCENTTANG8 жыл бұрын
i have a question, so when your are recording do you just leave the zoom on record all day long and sync it to the audio with the footage or before every take u hit record so you have multiple audio files to the video files? which way would be better? or how to some sound recordists go about recording the audio.
@BryanDumaguina8 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the productions' workflow. But I've gone with multiple audio files. For every sequence, shot and take is a corresponding audio file. I keep track with a log such as Sound Report Writer by Inaudible Labs (for Android and iPhone available), and give the post production a copy of the sound report for easy syncing. This is if the production uses the good old slate system. For timecode based productions, it still works; but that's a different workflow altogether.
@arbabiju8 жыл бұрын
You are going to record and stop recording every take, ideally on the same rhythm as the camera operator. You'll hear the AD or director call out "roll camera, roll sound," before going for a take. I've never seen anyone record all day, that would lead to a nightmare scenario in post (a very tedious and impractical syncing workflow).
@IronFilmVR8 жыл бұрын
In a few rare cases people might just let it roll all day long on their back up recorder, so they never need to worry about that in terms of starting and stopping it. But that isn't too common, and only for when you've got a back up recorder in operation as well as you primary.
@LONE-WOLF-FILMS10 ай бұрын
For every take, you'll record an audio file for that. This is so that the audio can be matched to the clips that have been shot.
@deweyweber46199 жыл бұрын
Can't you record a backup right on the h6 at a lower level?
@willvarner28898 жыл бұрын
+deweyweber yes idk why he didn't just do that
@arbabiju8 жыл бұрын
Theres no way to record a backup stream within the h6 itself, outside of using a splitter and recording to two separate tracks. Couldn't afford to sacrifice the extra track without losing one of the wireless.
@joshuashade7648 жыл бұрын
The H6 has a feature where it records the same signal 12db lower? Says it right here. www.zoom-na.com/products/field-video-recording/field-recording/h6-handy-recorder/features#recording-features
