I do love and use slate trigger a ton, but this is truly a more solid and universal way to approach using samples within a daw. Only thing I'd add, especially as a fellow cubase user, is to quickly run through your hit points just to check they are all actually at the start of the hit, as hit point detection isn't always 100% accurate. Most songs might only have a hundred or so snare hits, so can usually zoom in and hit next next next and visually check each hit point in about 2 minutes.

Logic has a super cool feature for this! Have you ever tried filtering the track to get more accurate triggers if you have issues getting accurate triggers? It’s been a minute since I saw a video pop up. Love KZbin’s sub systems.
@BobbyHuff3 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam! Yes if I get tracks with tons of bleed I’ll have to do some gating or filtering before I hit the detection for midi. Generally Cubase handles this very well as I’m sure most DAWS do by now.

I've done this and it's a great approach. I did find it too cumbersome if I had to move a few of the live snare recordings around afterwards (like flying a fill to another location). Then you have to redo it. But great tip nevertheless if that doesn't bother you. I guess you are in essence comparing the triggering algorithms of Cubase vs. Trigger.
@BobbyHuff3 жыл бұрын
Good point. What I would do in that case is render the midi to audio and then what ever you needed to move around from the live drums grab the rendered audio at the same time. The algorithm in Cubase is far superior to Trigger. I love Slates stuff big time but trigger is not accurate on a pro level.

@@BobbyHuff When you say “not accurate” do you mean that it triggers too fast/slow? Have you witnessed this with Steven Slate Drums too (a Slate problem or just T2)? Wondering if triggering through SSD (SS Drums) via MIDI would be better than the same sounds through Trigger2?
@BobbyHuff3 жыл бұрын
@@ThemFuzzyMonsters the Trigger samples would not be accurate throughout the song. Some early, others late. Triggering SSD by midi is accurate!!

Very cool, if the audio to midi is solid and DAW delay compensation is working this is epic. I like getting everything to audio so I can fix fix. I don't trust the modern DAW with keeping stuff in time/ phase (ya Tape had its thing, but it was part of it). lol We used sound replacer and hand editing back in the day (check phase), don't replace augment!! And...way back it was the Forat F16 that Bruce made or the Fairlight.

When you make the midi track, what do you choose: Dinamic velocity or static velocity? and what configuration you put on the menu that opens when you click on create midi notes?
@BobbyHuff3 жыл бұрын
Hey Atrey. I make all the midi notes at full velocity and let the live snare lead with the dynamics. Although every sample is at the same dynamic these VST instruments have a “round robin,” feature so they don’t play the exact same sample 2 hits in a row so it offers some differences in the nuances in the samples. Hope that answered your question.

About drums, what program can i use to create my own drums? As i don't have my own drums and live in an apartment. So, how can i make my own drum tracks without having to play drums on my own. I can, but! I don't have a propper space for drum's, not to say I would get kicked out if i did play drums in my apartment. So i am looking for an alternative with software where I can create my own drum tracks.

I've used EzDrummer since the first version. I don't make songs for radio or anything so they sound just fine. Run a new channel for each, turn off all effects and EQ each channel in DAW. If you play with the swing setting you can almost find a pocket. I do replace the snare with Dr. Bob's Black Album snare.
