There's some genuinely good tips here. I like how you did the outline section, and that's something I'm going to adopt. Up until now I've been using dozens of random Scrivener text files, which all have bits and pieces in them without any cohesion, so I end up forgetting what I wrote and where I put it. Also the snapshots feature. What I was doing was creating a new text file for the 2nd draft of a chapter, and manually copying in the 1st draft content before writing over it. Snapshots is a much simpler method to use. Really like the Emerald theme, too. I was aware of templates, but didn't really make use of them, but I will now. The scene cards thing looks amazing too. I struggle a lot with a million ideas and tangents, and you've created/used a few methods that will help me structure my work a bit more. Cheers.

Hi Abbie, Okay I have finished your Scrivener course and it is SO great - such a helpful way to kickstart using this software for anyone looking to get started on a novel. And your template? Wow - so useful! I would pay money for this template! The questions and prompts and explanations - wow, they've helped me flesh out this story, which has been circling in my head for several years, more in the last two days than I have been able to do just mulling it over in my head for 2+ years. And your character templates... wow, my characters suddenly have backstories that I wasn't even aware of, and I sometimes find myself having to stop and catch my breath at how emotional some of these backstories are now that they are on the page. Your course, and this template, have actually given me the confidence to attempt NaNoWriMo for the first time - I'm daunted and scared, but I think these tools will really make a difference and give me the support I need. Thank you! I have a question about your character template specifically and your Scrivener template: in the character template you have a section for "The Backstory Scene That Changed Everything" and in the Scrivener template you have another section called "Main Character Pivotal Moment Scene". Are these the same thing? Do you tend to have the same content in these sections?

Abbie, I want to thank you for the "plunge" you were the person that presented Scrivener to an all new height for me. I thank you again as I will be using the software/program for my writing/ novels. I too am one that has, OneNote and MS word. But simply, yes, when I saw what you are/were showing in this demo and what I downloaded. TYVM ❤🤗 and thank you for the 20% off. The discount is still valid 3 years later!! 😉

Never heard of the writing month (maybe because I'm Dutch and don't have much presence on social media at all), but I looked at my huge mess of a google drive, thought to myself "How on Earth am I ever going to get this organized again?", Googled how others do it, saw Scirvener mentioned and now here I am. :D EDIT: good video. Subbed.

Great video. I used Scrivener for a long time, but because of the delay with version 3 for Windows, I looked for something else. Found Papyrus Author and have fallen in love with this program. I'm hoping Scrivener continue to exist for those who use it, but I'm not going back.

Thank you Abbie for this video!!!!!! I have always been on the fence when it comes to scrivener, but 12:18 I was convinced. I am on a deadline and I so need this progress tracker! Thanks so much.

So I have been toying with the idea for getting Scrivner for nearly a year now (I'm on windows and was waiting for Scrivner 3 to be released but it continues to be pushed back) and every now and then I come back to youtube to check out some info to see if I should pick it up. You may have just talked me into it! Great video!

Thanks for the info, Abbie. I’ve been writing for a while but I recently decided to start the process of self-publishing my debut novel. Your videos have been incredibly helpful and encouraging, so you have yourself a new subscriber!

Purchased the Scrivener software (Thanks for the discount code too), great decision. MS Word just cant pull all the resources together and make it easy to draw from as when needed. I like that you can just add notes & pictures on the fly. Its there when you need to reference the info and never jump off the main worksheet.

I just got this because Mirco Word was being a pain for my large book. Google docs doesn't support anything bigger than 250k words. This was a nice change. I'm glad to see you already have a video about it lol

I really love Scrivener! I did find that I wasn't able to utilize it like you described in my earlier drafts. If a person wants to create new files for every draft then this probably won't matter. But so much changed and I spent soooo much time just fixing my outline. Though, once my draft 3 was about to start it was EVERYTHING. So I think it really depends on how ppl like to work. I'm just OCD 😅

Thank you, Abbie! I used your promo code when I got scrivener just now :) i am tired of having to open so many different documents in word and it made me so unmotivated to write. I just tried scrivener a little bit now and it feels much more organized!

Oh ... my ... gosh. You're so the queen of organization, Abbie. I feel exhausted just looking at the sample project you created. I may still give Scrivener a try, but I don't think I'd be able to keep things as organized as you do. Then again, maybe I'll find it's not as hard as it looks, so ... who knows? :)

Thank you for sharing this video. It touches upon very many good points. However, it would have been great to see a full Scrivener (fleshed out) version of one of your own published works. I am an English major and do not fancy Jane Austen's novels, no matter how great they may be. Further more in the characterization part of your video at 7:21, it would have been good to see all the questions answered, everything filled out so as to get a completed feel of the character. So in that sense this video was a let down. I hope you will do a video with your own work on Scrivener, and if you have already done it, please share the link. Thank you. Also instead of Snap shots, snap shoting every chapter, why can't you just save DRAFT 1, DRAFT 2, and DRAFT 3? Wouldn't that be easier as you keep polishing up your novel? Just asking.

I've had 3 book series in my head since I was 13 years old. Yet I could never write them. Thank You Abbie. I have been writing non-stop since subscribing :)

One thing that Abbie forgot to mention about the value of writing in Scrivner is that if you link the project to Dropbox or another cloud file sync & share system you can write on ANY platform with complete ease. In addition to my MacBook laptop I also have a desktop and a tablet and regardless of what platform I'm using all of my project files are there without requiring me to jump through additional hoops. Big thanks to Abbie for this post and FWIW her Master class is AWESOME!!!

One thousand times this. I have the beta, but having to re-download it every month is a struggle. I just want them to release Scrivener 3 for windows, it's been 84 years.

Hello Abbie, just subscribed to your channel. I've tried using Scrivener in the past, but found it to be scary and overwhelming. But watching this video, it's helped clarify a lot of things, and I'll definitely be using it from now on. It's like everything I guess, takes a bit of time getting used to it. Navigation is the key for me, finding out where everything is. I look forward to more of your content.
