Baby Audio's new plugin Smooth Operator is exactly that a smooth plugin to operate. It sounds incredible to use on vocals, drums, instruments, and even 2 Tracks! It is a clean interface and fast to dial in the sound you want. I break down what each parameter does and how to use it on vocals and even do a sweet filter effect in seconds. This plugin is my new favorite go to surgical tool when I need to take out the bad and only leave the good frequencies in my vocals or any instrument.

Super review! Could you eventually make a tutorial about side chaining with Smooth Operator for that Kick & Bass issue? Would be great for me, as I don’t understand side chaining at all, and for many of your followers. By the way: who is that very, very good singer? Sounds as if it was the singer of „Dirty Loops“.

Nice video! I was happy because it seemed you wanted to take an exemple different from the usual kick & bass for sidechain, but you changed my mind. I would like to know if I am the only one ... when using the sidechain function with a signal that has no bass at all, it stills pretends there is bass content to be removed... I thought it would only restrict itself to the frequencies that are present in the sidechained audio, which is not the case.

Matt, what tools do you use to get bass pitch to be very audible in a mix, even on small phone speakers?

Good question. The main trick I do use is distortion. Doing a send to an 808 green screamer. Dialing that in right will help A LOT cutting through small speakers. You can also use a little compression to add some spank to it. With something like a cla plugin. They’re good tools when used right lol.

So it does exactly what a dynamic eq. Can't see the difference.

With a Dynamic EQ you set a specific frequency and threshold. Smooth Operator divides the signal in many narrow spectral bands. It analyses the signal and then reduces only those bands poking out above the threshold. So it can change which frequencies it's compressing based on the content coming in. It's like a dynamic EQ that automatically changes which frequencies it's compressing, based on resonance.
