Thanks for this, it was super helpful! I also discovered a use for the "clicking an unlocked object puts the snap point at the centre of the object" feature that seems kind of weird: I wanted to create a partial grid using snap points, but didn't want to have the grid turned on for the whole table. I tried showing the grid lines and clicking as close to the intersections as I could, but it was of course imperfect. Then I realized I could turn on global grid snapping, place an unlocked object at each intersection where I wanted a snap point, and click on that with the Snap Point tool. Perfectly spaced snap points. :D

Doesnt this create the same challenge? Now instead of your cursor trying to exactly match a grid line, you now have the challenge of getting that object centered exactly on that intersection, right?
@weheartgames Жыл бұрын
@@ndvballer Yep! But there's a couple ways to get it the way you want. First is as I described, by turning on a grid temporarily, laying out and lining up your items on the grid, then clicking on each item with the snap tool. Then you can disable your grid, or even change it to a different size for a different part of the table. Another tip is to "hold" a bunch of objects and press a number key on your keyboard. TTS will arrange everything you're holding into a grid with that number of rows (or columns, I forget which). Now you have a bunch of objects that are perfectly lined up in a grid (or single row, or column) and you can drop them where you need them, and click on each of them with the snap tool. PRO TIP for this method: if you have a bunch of spaces for tokens, for example, but you want a bit more space between them, hold them, then tap the "+" key on your keyboard a few times (count how many times you press it); this scales up your objects a bit. Then press your number as above to arrange them into a grid. Drop them, create your snap points, then grab them and scale them back down to their original size by pressing the "-" key the same number of times you pressed the "+" key.

Very helpful. This video seems to stop just short of my need so maybe I'll get lucky and you would kind enough to advise me on my issue. So I have tiles with a hex patterns with snap points in each hex on the tile. The game token used on these tiles is, however, a two-hex game piece. Ideally, it would pivot off either hex (not the center point), rotate limited to 60,120,180 etc, and and drop into the snap points on the tile accordingly. Help? Thanks doing what you do.

I have a game where each player has a series of tiles that need to move at times, and are a hex grid. They player will be using - on top of this hex overlay tile - a 2-hex token (so two hexes connected at one edge). This token moves lengthwise and pivots (1 or more hexes) on the tile's hex grid during the game. 1. Can the tile (which wont stay in same place during game, can be replaced by another tile, etc) have snap points to the center of each hex and 2. Can the 2-hex token be made to pivot on the rear OR front hex (both may be possible in the game)? In 'real life' moving in this manner on such a hex grid is easy, but I am struggling to translate to easy on TS... moving and pivoting the center of the 2-space hex means having to move the token back onto the hex spaces every single movement. Thx.

Very helpful!!! If you have a board (e.g. chess) can you make a snappoint grid or need you to add every point separately?
@LudoLodge4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, without getting into scripting, you would have to add the points manually. Sometimes it can be easier to move a piece onto each space, and click the piece to add the snap point. As long as the piece is not locked, and the board is locked, the snap point will go through to the board to match the current location of the piece.

I love this video. I do want one more bit. How to have TTS place the snap point in the centre of the object but also move with the object? Thanks so much this video was so useful.
@LudoLodge4 жыл бұрын
Good question! Two approaches come to mind: 1) First add a snap point without the object locked, so it appears in the center. Then lock the object. Then delete the snap point and click in the same spot to add a new one to the locked object. Not perfect, but should be close. 2) The fact that you want a snap point on the object implies that there will be some other component you will want to snap on top of it. So you can lock the object, place the top object where you would want it to snap, and then click the top object with the snap point tool. Since the top object isn't locked, it will go to the center of that object, and since the bottom object is locked, it will stay on that object. This allows you to position things exactly how you ultimately want them to snap. Hopefully that helps!

Hey I was wondering if might have a solution to an issue I'm having with snap points. I have a token imported to become a playing piece, then I have dice that sit on top of that token. When I move the token the dice move about but I want them to stay snapped to the playing piece. I have snap points assigned to the token and the dice snap to it when I place but once I move the playing piece itself, they jumble about again! is there a way I can mess around with the settings to stop that from happening. The issue is I think the dice being drawn to the snap points beneath the token on the board, as well as the snap points on the token. I just want them to stay still!

@LudoLodge4 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about flipping cards from a deck to be face-up on the table, I am not aware of a faster built-in way than click dragging each card, and using to flip. For dealing cards to players' hands, you can right click and use the Deal option to send them to specific players, or click the middle color repeatedly to deal to all players. There are a lot of mods that use some of the more advanced scripting options to do things like auto-deal to fill a row of cards... I definitely would like to do some tutorials on the scripting functionality eventually.

Thanks a lot for this!! One question if you might know - is it possible to allow placing of objects only to snap points? I.e. if you place an object anywhere, it would go to the closer snap point automatically. I know you can achieve something like this with the grid on, but I would like the actual positioning of the snap points to be custom :/
@LudoLodge3 жыл бұрын
While TTS does provide snap points as a shortcut for placing pieces "perfectly," it still primarily simulates what it is like to be around a real table. As a result, it relies on players to put things where they should go, without supporting something like what you are describing. That said, TTS had full scripting support, allowing users to program their own functionality and extend the built-in features. I have no doubt what you want is doable with scripting, but definitely more of something you'd have to build yourself. I have a playlist on scripting in TTS if you are interested in going down that route: kzbin.info/aero/PLdHW9On5G8NKyYMnXzF8E52qmxQX5r8bb

Hi! Do you mean having modular boards snap into place side by side? If so, you might be able to use the global grid to handle some of that. Most games that have modular boards don't change them much after setup, so even if they don't snap into place, you could just lock them once they are set up correctly.
