cool was wondering if this would work on a model as well and works perfect. Using this to add Tattoos over the Model across the front over to the side and back over the seams. (note: over the seams is a bit tricky, when zooming in especialy after a render in 4K the seams can have a line in them, if you know that there are lines, then you can always give a slight final touch in photoshop to mask those lines and make it a perfect fit.) How to: *From daz3d export obj in CM for daz3d. *Follow The WP Guru tut painting accross seams in this video *Then save obj in photoshop: go to > 3d > 3d export layer *select obj file file format and in CM. leave everything as it is and select OK *Then back in daz3d don't import the obj... but open the model you where previously working on, then fine the folder you saved the new obj in and you see that also the texture files have been saved. this means you can replace the texture thats already in daz3d on your model. * select your model in the scenes tab *then go to the surfaces tab, select your model and open the drop down feature of the small triangle *open the drop down feature on surfaces *select the texture you made changes to in photoshop, like torso or something *on the window next to it you see base color *click on the little square picture/box *select browse and go to the trexture file that you want to replace it with *select open and there you go the new edited texture you edited in photoshop is now applied to you model. This feature is nice and easy to handle if you dont know how to work with 2D textures. This what you always have a 2d representation next to it so you can see where you are editing. Perfect WP Guru, thank you so so much

UPDATE September 2021: Adobe have decided to discontinue 3D features in Photoshop and have started removing them. If you’re not seeing icons, or can’t find any 3D related things in your current version of Photoshop, that might be the reason. More info here: helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/3d-faq.html

Do you have a video on how to paint/edit over seams where 2 different material zones/textures intersect? For example the body texture and arms are different for G8 - how could you apply a pattern or tattoo so it appears in the right place in both of the textures, which share a seam?
@WPguru2 жыл бұрын
Photoshop won't be able to do it I'm afraid, but Substance Painter can. What makes it complicated is that Genesis 8 uses UDIMs, but Travis has a video on how to overcome this. With his tutorial, you'll be able to apply paint strokes and tattoos across seams and bring it back into Daz Studio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ7XhK2VlpV6bbM

I don't have any properties come up when I open the texture so not sure why it does not show the properties like yours. Any ideas?

When you double click a texture, the opened PSB file is located in a weird place. I can replace the texture with a PSB in a sensible location, but every time I double click the texture again, it seems to open a new PSB in a weird location. Basically, can I work on a flat PSB texture and have my 3D app (C4D) read the changes to that texture PSB?

I was hoping you might cover exporting the textures you covered in this video from photoshop for use in other applications.
@WPguru7 жыл бұрын
By creating a texture, Photoshop creates a new PSD file (as a second document, as shown on the right). You can save it as such, or export it as JPG/TIFF/PNG, ready for use in other apps.

This model looks VERY hi-res. What was the poly count? Also, how does this process compare to poly-painting in ZBrush? Thank You!
@WPguru3 жыл бұрын
This was a dress made by 3D Universe from Hivewire, it came with Willow for Dawn (I don't think it's available anymore): hivewire3d.com/willow-for-dawn.html. It probably looks more high-res than it is, I don't have it installed anymore to check the polycount. Polypainting in ZBrush is the process of applying paint to each "pixol" of the mesh, which means the resolution of the object during texturing will determine how much detail can be seen when the texture is baked. Think of it as an intermediate resolution, from which the actual textures need to be generated before export. Painting directly on a 2D texture on the other hand means you'll paint exactly what you see on the model.
@deaosatori2163 жыл бұрын
So, in terms of what you can do directly on tot he 3D model in the 3D view, you can only use the brush tool to paint? I.e. I can't paste and edit other raster artwork on to the 3D model? I would have to do that in the flat unwrapped UV PSB?

@@WPguru If I export my model from C4D, does Photoshop not support Luminance materials? Do I have to use 'Colour', for example?
@WPguru3 жыл бұрын
@@deaosatori216 I doubt it does. I have a feeling under the hood it's just an OBJ or FBX that's transferred, and as far as I know those file types only support a diffuse texture. Any other materials that have been mapped to it will be discarded.

@WPguru3 жыл бұрын
I find it's very hit and miss with maps. Some import fine, others do not. I haven't found out why yet. I've tried making sure the maps and OBJ are in the same folder, but Photoshop doesn't seem to mind. I have a feeling it has something to do with how the MTL file is written. Would be nice to get to the bottom of this one day.

Great tutorial! Im trying to use PS 3d for cloth texturing(exactly like yours) in a 3d game but the texture is not look realistic at all. It looks fake. The pattern/texture im using is quite good and the resolution is good. Do i need to add something on the OBJ before i export it from Blender? Any idea on how can i make it look better?
@WPguru7 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't know the render engine in Photoshop that well, but it's based on OpebGL by the looks of it. That's great for fast approximate results, but they won't look very accurate. So your best bet is to make a change, save it, and see how Blender or another target application renders it. Then judge your results by your target render engine.

As long as the texture file is large enough to hold the detail, it should work.

@@WPguru Thank you for your response! I found out how to do this, I was puzzled for quite a while since you put a pattern via the 2D UV, but if you wanted to place a pattern on the 3D aspect of it you just merge your pattern down onto the physical 3d layer and it applies to both.

What you're editing in Photoshop is a diffuse texture. How this looks in your render will greatly depend on your render engine, the shader/surface properties on your object, and the light you use during the render.

@WPguru3 жыл бұрын
That will work, you could also use a Displacement and/or Normal Map. You could also project the texture onto an object that has height information (say a sculpt with surface details), then bake that height information out into such maps. You can also paint directly with heigh information on model using Substance Painter.

@WPguru4 жыл бұрын
Could be the size of the texture itself. I guess Photoshop can only do so much with the pixels it's been given. I'd try making the current texture about 4x larger, then try the healing brush and see if that helps. If it does, you can shrink the texture down again for the final output if you have to (otherwise, leave it enlarged).
@fookustudios32794 жыл бұрын
@@WPguru Thanks for the response I'll give that a try. The texture is already 2048, the clone or healing brush on the 2d texture works as expected, however, as mentioned before is very blurry while painting directly on the object in 3d.

There were two versions of CS6 (which is at this time about 10 years old): CS6 and CS6 Extended. The latter version was a bit more expensive and included some 3D features, the regular version did not. Unless it says “extended” on the about page, you don’t have those extra features.
