Question, I was reading the terms, and noticed two things that stood out to me that I wanted to bring to your attention. - what exactly qualifies as “Cellular wireless telephones that are for resale, professional, or commercial use (consumer cards only)” And - “Replacement cell phones purchased from other than the cellular provider’s retail/internet store or designated agent having the authorization to activate the phone” I guess my main concern is, does it matter or not if I bought the phone through Apple and not my Carrier (Verizon)? I bought mine through Apple and just want to make sure that doesn’t affect my eligibility. Thank you. Also, wonderful video and appreciate you taking the time to create and post!

In fact, when I dropped my phone and broke my screen, this was a phone I bought from the Apple Store (unlocked) and on Verizon. So you should be good to go 👍

I haven’t used cellphone protection on either my credit card or phone carrier. I don’t carry protection with my carrier anymore since getting the CFF, so it’s great to hear you had an easy time with Amex. Hopefully Chase will be just as easy if I ever need to use it. It would work the same way, but you would send in a claim to replace the phone. Remember the maximum reimbursement is $800 per claim with AMEX Platinum. I don't think you need to show that it doesn't work anymore or anything like that, but I've never filed for a replacement so I'm not completely sure.

It worth it on the sense that I’d rather do this than use the insurance from the car rental company - especially if I’m renting for multiple days! But there are other cards out there that offer this perk for free (primary auto rental CDW) so if you have those cards, that would be a better deal.

Yes, if you have a family plan (and you u are the primary), and you are the primary cardholder also, then you could submit any phone on your plan for reimbursement. Up to 2 times per year for up to $800.

For AMEX, it can be either prepaid or post-paid. I have a prepaid plan and it worked for me!

You can replace the insurance from T-Mobile! The whole point is to not have insurance from carriers so as long as you put your cell phone bill on the Platinum!

When I filed for cell phone protection with this video, I had Verizon Prepaid and I was reimbursed completely, minus the deductible so I can confirm it works with prepaid plans! There may be some prepaid plans that won't qualify though so YMMV.

Hi Shirley. It should not matter which card you use to pay for your cell phone repair. As long as the cell phone bill is charged to the AMEX associated with your cell phone account, that should be fine!

It’s probably going to be difficult without a photo of the damaged phone, but you can always try to file a claim to see what happens!

That’s a great question! Not sure, but they usually need some type of proof so a police report will at the very least help with the claim

I think the terms aren't specific about whether you have to own the phone outright or not. The main thing is that you're the primary account holder on your bill and you charged the entire phone bill on your Platinum card the previous month.

So, I was looking at this earlier, and I couldn't find any policy saying it must be have been purchased by its Amex card. So what I'm understanding is, you can buy the phone with other credit card, just change your phone billing to Amex credit card, and you can still get the coverage?

Yup, that's correct! You can buy the phone using any card. As long as the bill is charged to your AMEX card with cell-phone protection the month prior to the time it was damaged, this should cover the repair!

That’s a great question. I think I would first start with pictures and then explaining to the claim specialist why you need a new phone (it doesn’t turn on, touch screen doesn’t work, etc.). Not sure what their criteria is exactly, but I think that’s where I would start.

Unfortunately, no. To qualify for this cell phone protection, you need to be the primary account holder of both the card and the cell phone plan. If your friend pays the bill with his Platinum Card, then your phone would be eligible in that scenario.
