Michael, thanks for all you do. Much appreciated. 2 tips: I regularly test water and I have found I save some time starting with the 2 that take the longest to get results, Ammonia and Nitrates. While I’m waiting I do the other tests quickly. Because I also use a pipette and don’t want to cross-use the test tubes, I use a sharpie to write on the outside of the test tubes and cover it with clear packing tape so it won’t wear away. Be well and safe to all.

Awesome video Michael, big thumbs up!!! I think API dropped the ball though calling the kit "Master Test Kit". GH & KH are also very important. Besides knowing your pH so you can keep fish that do good with it one really needs to know the hardness too. Example; My tap water comes out with 6.8 pH which I like because it turns the deadly ammonia into a safer ammonium. But my tap water has 0 GH & KH. All fish and plants need a certain amount of hardness. So I have to add say Seachem Equilibrium to a level for my angelfish tanks. Then I have to add a bit more for my guppy tanks. Fish need it for osmoregulation and plants also need it to live and thrive. One other test I would recommend is for testing chlorine from city water supplies. Don't have to use it constantly but I found (smelled stronger chlorine) my water has more chlorine during the summer than winter. So I double dose my chlorine remover in the summer.

wow you have really good soft water for discus, i have to use ro/di water and put some gh minerals back in the water, the best thing about ro/di is i take out the chloramines and nitrates before it goes in my tank. my gh-78ppms ph- 6,4 its great for soft water fish.joe h navy seabee
@James_Hande4 жыл бұрын
@@petroman-cg8tt Once I fix my cracked 125G tank I plan on having some discus. My problem with such soft water is I have been adding Seachem Equilibrium to my tanks which has been getting expensive with all my breeding/rearing tanks. I'm ordering soon the minerals separately and mixing my own which will be way cheaper. This water source is new to me as I moved here a couple years ago. My previous water was well balanced and worked fine for all types of fish.

However, being a newbie or if a beginner were looking for detailed instructions, it looked like you literally put the vial over the colored portion. Not on the white portion next to the colored portion.And I was listening to hear how you would do it, rather than just saying it looks like. Most "community fish" are compatible. Your fish store SHOULD know, unless you get a noob. I think the rule is, if your fish is too big for the other ADULT fishes mouth, then you should be safe. Guppies are so much fun!

@@MichaelsFishRoom Yes, don't use Windex, cleaning one side versus all glass and why, what to clean with (scratching the glass) and of course the products used in the process. Should be a good video.
