How to Use the Big Foot (Darning, Quilting, Embroidery)

This is great! I bought one a long time ago - so long ago that the package says "Machine quilting has taken a GIANT step into the 90's!" ;-) I have been trying to figure out how to attach it, and here you were when I needed it! Thank you, Sewing Parts Online!

Hi Rose! There is one for Babylock Jane. If you go to our site and type #BF-L in the search box, it will take you to the correct foot. Or you could click on the link in the video description. Your BabyLock Jane is a high shank, so I need to special order the Big Foot for that machine. Let me know if you are interested and I'll order it.

I have an older machine a brother xr-31 it said in the manuel that I don't need a darning foot just use a darning plate and a hoop. Can I still use a darning foot /low shank for my machine and can you demonstrate it for me?

I am trying to learn FMQ, but the embroidery foot that came with my brother lb6800 doesn’t even touch the fabric when I lower it. It so hard to keep the fabric from going everywhere. Is this normal? Also, will this fit my machine? I think a clear plate would at least help me see what I’m doing! That the other struggle.

Hi Jean! Darning Foot and Free Motion Foot are the same feet, just different names (as if this sewing thing wasn't confusing enough!). What is the make and model of your machine? I'll search around of a clear foot.

Could you help me please? I have just purchased the Big Foot from the UK after double checking with 'The Colourful World of Sewing' (the Pfaff US site) that it would fit my machine. I have a Pfaff ClassicStyle 1529 with IDT system (about 12 years old). I've watched your video and have been sitting here for an hour trying to attach it. Now this should be easy but I am really stuck and concerned that I have been sold the wrong part :( I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you so much

What stitch do you select on your Brother? What stitch length (or does it matter)? And, what tension(s)? Thanks....A New Customer

Hi Kate! Bring the stitch length down to zero, as prevents unnecessary wear on your feed dogs. The stitch length depends on your hand movements. In the same sense. the tension depends on your hand movements. Start out with the automatic tension settings and adjust as need. If you find you like long stitches, lower the tension. If you sew short tight stitches, increase your tension. I like to stay in the middle, so I don't have to adjust my tension.

Hi! It would fit your machine, but it would not as well as demonstrated in this video. You would also need a darning plate.
