A common problem we see are stiff ferro rods, meaning they are very dense and take a lot of effort to scrape off material. Combine this with a striker that will give you more strikes but less heat output. You'll see minimal results.
A way to combat this is to use a more aggressive striker. Try using a squared piece of metal or you can even order a better striker online. This should allow you to get better sparks and heat output. Another trick you can use is on your first two scrapes of your ferro rod, scrape slowly so that you land the shavings onto whatever you’re trying to light. A lot of people could benefit from just watching the second half of the video on the proper way to use a ferro rod. Seen way too many "survivalists" on YT holding the rod in the air and trying to spray sparks down on their tinder.

Maybe so, but I have yet to see any videos with people putting jute through the same torture tests that they do with Black Beards. Jute may or may not work however Black Beard Fire Starters have been tried, tested and have been proven to work no matter what!

Someone needs to learn how to strike a ferro rod.

There are different techniques for ferro rods however through hours upon hours of extensive research & development we have found this to be the overall best way. A couple of reasons why we promote it is because this technique is very easy to learn and it is especially favorable towards children and the elderly who do not have the hand/arm strength as a person in their 20-30's. However if you have a way that works better for you then by all means go for it.

You do realise that this is just charred rope.. Instead of charcloth, do the same method with rope.

Great question, we actually don’t char our product at all. That’s why one stick has 4+ hour burn time and burns with a constant flame .
