Great video. I will add that tablet users can change the weight of the blob brush by double clicking the icon, changing the drop down next to size to Pressure and adjusting the amount of variation. When in illustrator I actually do all my linework with the blob tool because I feel it is the fastest and easiest way to get lines to go from thick to thin, and vice versa.

It seems harder to adjust that line after though? For example after tracing the outline of a head and adjusting the roundness of the line..

@@FreedomOfSport your not wrong there. If you need to edit linework after the fact I’d stick to the regular brush tool to keep it all pathed out.

The width of the line does not have to be a uniform thickness. Double click on the Blob Tool icon and you can customize the tool to draw the line with the pressure sensitive tip similar to the normal brush tool.

you can change the weight, click on the brush in the brush panel then change size to pressure then set both to the same number.

Thanks for the video, I understood much better this tool now, however, I have a question, if you keep painting with the blob brush (hold) without release it, the blob brush stops after a few seconds , so I need to paint and release in order to paint, so I can't paint without release my mouse button or table pencil, is this a normal behavior of that tool? thanks again.

No that is not normal you should just press shift+B and then blob brush will stay on unless you press another tool. Thanks for the comment mate.

Thanks for watching sometimes you press alt, control or even capslock make sure they are not pressed. Also in your preferences tick off GPU performance that might help.

The blob brush resets after every stroke. I have to reselect the brush and size and profile every stroke.

I don't use the blob brush much anymore, it has limitations. Better to use shapes.

Use grain brushes I don't think blob brushes allows that brushes woul have to come throug hbrush panel.

Hi! For some reason when I have the blob brush tool open, and select which brush I'd like to paint with (ex. 3pt oval, charcoal feather, etc.), it will only draw with the default Basic and 1pt outline. How can I actually draw with the brush I've selected? Thanks!

Try changing the width with [ or ] on keyboard. Also change the brush profile up top left that will change shape or size.

It's not by default you would need to change the settings of the brush and put pressure on.

Hey double click on the round brush in your brushes panel and then there should be 3 sliders select the size slider and make it a bigger size. There is no shortcut like photoshop to make it bigger /smaller.

is there a benefit to filling an object with a paint brush rather than just fill the object?

The key benefit is if you are doing an illustration that are heavy with custom line work, strokes and paths then you won't be filling it so the blob brush tool is a good way to color it because you can paint it under all the strokes.

The best way to use the blob brush is with a tablet. Pressure sensitivity allows you to paint and do organic ink work in illustrator. I feel like you're doing everyone a huge disservice by not explaining that.
