Thanks so much. I really appreciate that. The tutorials haven’t gained that much traction. Maybe because they are related to niche software. But the software is really useful! Thanks again!

Very helpful explanation about how the channel mixer works, thank you. Btw, I enjoyed your articles in Frames and confess that I am guilty of SAS!

Thanks so much Tim! I also appreciate your mentioning the article because, honestly, I never get any feedback and so I often wonder if anyone is actually reading them and, if they are, whether they enjoy them or not. The articles disappear into a black hole lol. I thought it might be unusual to write about both SAS and 3D LUT Creator in the sane issue, but I really feel that 3DLC is in another league from most of the SAS stuff!

Great videos! Honestly having the A/B tab I don´t understand why we need the channel mixer other than just for fun.

On a weekly basis, I am jumping like a frog and catch a fly. I left the start line and am seeing colours that I can change with some predictability. Your interpretations, instructions are holding my attention and the image is developing. I am curious how an unpredictable tool may be used to achieve intended colour changes.

Thank you so much Geza. I am so glad you are finding these videos useful. I think you are exactly right when you say 'some' predictability. I think when using the channel mixer and volume tabs (I cover the volume tab with a video to be released on New Year's Day) there are some rules for a general direction but there is still a portion that is unpredictable. I try to embrace that and approach it with a degree of experimentation with the hopes of being surprised! That is very different than the AB and CL grids where things are very controllable and predictable. In fact, as you will see in the next video where I color grade, the results of the channel mixer and volume tabs can be predictably adjusted using the AB and CL grids after using the channel and volume tabs. Again, thanks so much for watching and commenting.

If you are more accustomed to the channel mixer in Lightroom (there called camera calibration) you can set the model from RGB matrix to camera calibration. I find the colors behave more intuitively there

You can really get both some neat larger effects as well as some fine tuning of color in Lightroom’s camera calibration and I do use that during raw processing. I’m not a tech expert by any means, but I don’t think it actually acts like the channel mixer. You can shift the primary color so that the hue is different but then that hue, say orange, replaces the red. But it is mixed with the other channels in the same way the red would have been without being able to change the contributions of each channel. I could be wrong but that’s the way I understood it. Maybe that’s why it seems more intuitive (and is more intuitive)?
