To use the compass on your Alpinist in the Northern hemisphere, start by pointing the hour hand towards the sun, while keeping the dial flat.
In the morning, before midday, set the ‘S’ South marker on the rotating bezel by turning the 4 o’clock crown anti-clockwise to the middle point of the arc between the 12 o’clock marker and the time indicated by the hour hand. For example, if it is 10AM, you would set the S marker anti-clockwise to 11 o’clock.
Once set the compass markers will be displayed on the compass ring.
In the afternoon, after midday, again point the hour hand towards the sun while keeping the dial flat. Set the ‘S’ South marker on the rotating bezel by turning the 4 o’clock crown clockwise to the middle point of the arc between the 12 o’clock marker and the time indicated by the hour hand. For example, if it is 4PM, you would set the S marker clockwise to 2 o’clock.
Once set the compass markers will be displayed on the compass ring.
