Yes, you can use it on its own but you will need a Bluetooth-enabled device in order to complete the registration.

Hi, I know this isn't related to Iron-ons and stuff but I have some questions about the cricut cutting mats. I got the purple one, the stickiest one, generally used for cards took and thicker materials like that. I kind of figured I'd also be able to use it to cut removable vinyl stickers and I was able to the first time but every other time I've tried using it it cuts for about 10 seconds and then stalls and the red light starts blinking. Is that because of the mat or is there a different problem? I've also taken out the blade and cleaned it but it still doesn't work. I've kind of come to the conclusion that I need to buy the standard grip mat, but now I'm a little afraid it'll happen again. Can you help?
