I’ve actually got a good amount of experience in this thing as I grinded out the entire F-16AJ with the tech tree F-4EJ (as FTP and before the Thai tree was added, so this was the only rank 7) I’ve found two play styles that work well with it. The first relies on flying low and picking off enemies that are flying vertical to catch your teammates with your sparrows. As stated in the vid, this thing has a pathetic radar, which will feel especially awful if you came up from the T-2 and F-1 which have utterly phenomenal radars for their BRs. You need enemies to be above you and further than 5km to consistently hit shots with the sparrows. Circle around the edges of the furball close to the ground and be ready to punish anyone who flies up to shoot down one of your higher flying teammates. The second play style I’ve found to be very effective is to fly very high and pretty much act as death from above. You see, while the missiles on the F-4EJ lack a lot of things, they are quite possibly the best missiles at their BR in terms of range. So, if you fly 10km up in the air (which is pretty easy to reach in this thing), everyone will have to climb up to reach you with their missiles. You can then fire at them when they’re in your range and they’re far enough away from the ground that your radar won’t be cluttered. As long as you play it safe, you can control the entire upper sky by yourself, as not too many people climb high to begin with. Use other people’s trails to spot them when they fly up high to reach you, and play around with the range of your radar to avoid ground clutter. Then, as nobody ever looks up, you can drop down right on top of the rear of the enemy furball once the high skies are cleared and take an easy kill or two with the Aim-9s. It’s a little more of a slow paced play style, but it’s a lot closer to how they were used in real life and ends up being a good bit of fun once you get used to it. Anywho, just wanted to give my 10 cents on the matter. Side note, the tech tree F-4EJ is identical to the ADTW except for the paint job, so most of my knowledge should transfer to the ADTW. Good luck to all grinding the Japanese Air Tech Tree, as it’s a fun one!

Unironically pinning this as it is fantastic advice. The second strategy I didnt even think to try as I am a weak man and succumbed to base bombing but it sounds really interesting.

a strategy with the adtw that worked somewhat consistently was climbing to about 8-10km then looking down and shooting aim 9s from above. the phantoms climb rate is pretty good so you can get way above other people and they typically arent looking up. if someone climbs against you, you can run away or use a sparrow. just whatever you do, dont expect your sparrows to work like the american e2's or f's because the 7e's are only good against farther targets as they wont start pulling for 1.5 seconds.

I don’t know why this plane gets shat on so much. I have gotten 8 ace games in it so far.

Its a weaker plane but certainly not unusable ive had several good matches and its served me well overall. def not as easy plane to do well in tho compared to the j7d or f5c

Can you examine the top tier aircraft of the Japanese tree? I'm doing it with adtw but at the end of the day I don't know which planes are good and which are bad.

1000% I have a video coming out soon on the F4EJ Kai (which I highly recommend) and thats about where I am in the tree. I'll talk a bit in that video about the F15J and F15J(M), and I hope to grind the other trees soonish so I can look at the F16A OCU and the Gripen

Sorry for the late response I should honestly be putting this in the description but I use IWSM 8 its amazing for air and ground sounds and is on WT live

I have 145 matches in the ADTW and its shit. Buy the A7M1 next time its on sale (Defyn approved) and use the F5-E FCU for the top tiers ( talisman it ). If you still plan to use the ADTW Don't forget the F-111 and MIG-21 are in the same BR range as the ADTW and will beat it for base bombing (the MIG-21bis can carry enough to solo a base). If you're doing air-to-air, take 2 AIM-7E and 4 AIM9-P. The ADTW's missiles will likely not hit, but can force people to turn and slow down. Most people tunnel vision using the AIM-7E but can't get a lock since the radar sucks. It's better to bring fewer since the AIM-7 is highly situational. Fire the AIM-7E within 5 seconds or >6.8km of seeing the first enemy; otherwise, save them for end of the match. They take too long to lock in 90% of situations. The 20mm Vulcan... its BEAUTIFUL

I used the a7m1(love the plane itself, amazing dog fighter) to get to rank 4 but I just cannot stand air rb props anymore. Everything feels so slow and it takes forever to get into the action. I recommend the premium f86f40 sabre. It's one of the slower planes in its br but it's also one of the best dog fighters. The 6 .50 cals with tracer rounds absolutely shreds. Didn't really have a good time with the av8a so I won't recommend the av8s

vulcan is the saving grace of multiple japanese planes. also screw ppl who base bomb in mig21bis i havent used the A7M1 as I grinded the whole tree with the A6M5 ko reisen back when it was available but i can easily vouch for the F5E FCU
