Hey Bruce! Thanks for the praise 🙏 General Transom mounting (should be as close to the center line as possible without interference to the flow of water over your prop.) I normally mount them 1/4” lower than my hull as well. There are good written instructions for how and where to mount included in the box!

While you are using the quick draw maps will it tell u the depth on the contour lines? I see it tell u the depth in the top right corner but I was curious if it showed the depth on the actual map on the contour lines?

You cannot add maps, you record them as you go but there is no means of connection to another device. Yes the maps will be available for use and potentially assist you in locating fishing.

How many feet to each side of the boat does this unit map. I know you said it depends on the depth. So does that mean if it's 12 ft of water, it maps 12 ft to both sides?

that will depend on your transducer's cone/beam width. The lower the kHz the wider the cone (wider path mapping). However a higher kHz is likely to provide better resolution. And dual beam transducers perhaps provides the best of both.

What I'm doing is recording while our lake is full so I don't have record later. Fishing here gets pretty slow during the winter, so I just coast it and enjoy the wildlife while recording the bottom. 🙂

I’d use the waypoints. Make a waypoint when you launch. You can return to the waypoint.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

buy a small 12 volt battery at walmart found in the sports department. you will need a small charger to recharge them. trickle grargers will work. i use mine ice fishing and installed it all in a portable box and mounted the finder on the lid. works great

Run on a battery that will come with mount, wires, charger and transducer if you buy the kit. Otherwise your local baitshop quite possibly will have the battery, they're fairly common. A fully charged battery in good condition should last more than 24 hours even at the highest settings.

The unit does not have a memory card slot so info can't be saved and shared that way, but according to the Garmin site "You can share data if two compatible devices are connected using the blue and brown wires on the power cable or using the User Data Sharing Cable". I'd check with Garmin for info on this.

As you are moving keep adding waypoints to create a route which you can then backtrack to where you started. Routes can be named and saved for future use.

It's a great little unit. It's crazy what you can see with their "clearvu" technology. But one thing it's lacking is that it doesn't come with maps or the ability to add any. But, if you get a plus model, you have the ability to create your own maps with their Quickdraw Contours feature. For us, since we primarily fish areas we're familiar with, it's been more than enough.

The boat transducer does work with the flasher view but you're not getting the same view from the angled boat ducer you will from the coned ice ducer.

You need to try different speeds.One guy told me 20 to 25 is max you can go. but there might be different variations to depth and speed. But also if the mapping is green its working but yellow I think your either going to fast or something else causing it to not get a reading properly. Maybe transducer fastened incorrectly too. GL

It's a GPS with built in contouring map building. No promises are made of pre-loaded maps or the ability to load maps and there are neither.

Got the stricker 4 plus cv. .. i like the clear view but i wish it had a real gps.. i don't like this contour thing,, it reminds me an old computer game i was playing when i was young called .ultima lol Any i got my striker 4 plus cv for $140. Brand new from someone who got it for free in a fishing tournament. I spent a day fishing and though the river had no fish,,,and only after 6 hours fishing i realized that i did not activate the fish icons.. lol. If i had more money i would probably go with a built in gps one.. not the striker 4.

Pathetic at best, downloaded a chart from community charts, it was totally inaccurate and could not transfer from my phone to the striker 7cv. The chart showed depths of 20 to 30 feet, when in fact the water was 3 to 12 feet.
