Excellent! First time iPhone user. Starting with the X. Samsung for so long, loved them. Entire family with iPhone so finally reeled me in too. Awesome video. i have a question, in minute 1:15 you started to explain how in the photos app we can edit the picture using the portrait modifications but i couldn't find that option in my Iphone x. The portrait option appears only when actually taking the picture. Do you press something after going to photo app and after pressing "edit" ? or is there something i should turn on in the settings section ? thank you !

All you do is take a standard picture with the live photo setting on. One second before and one second after will be recorded as the live photo. You simply add that photo as you background. When you press with force on the lock screen the image will come alive.

Unfortunately I can’t remember if iPhone X had the ability to adjust the focus. I don’t think it did. You can try updating to the latest iOS but if it’s not there then it most likely can’t.

You have to take the photo in portrait mode then in edit you can turn it off or modify which portrait setting to apply.

He distance you hold the phone from the subject is important. Play with that and see if it helps

Unfortunately you can't take the pic like that but you can edit after in photos. Open photos, tap on the photo, tap edit, tap first option (crop) bottom left, tap the squares to the right of the reset option, and scroll through to 16:9.

You can’t unfortunately it’s distance based with subjects and usually is head and shoulders. You have to really play with distance.

So it's WYSIWYG I assume. I gather the optical zoom is 2X - anything above that is digital, is that right? I'm not that impressed with the digital zoom -- at around 5X and over the photos start to lose their sharpness. But the camera overall is amazing considering all it can do in a "phone". Apple doesn't have settings like that when taking the photo. When editing the photo you can change aspect ratio.

Hi jimdajock, I was searching here bc I had the same question. Heres how in case you didn't solve it yet. For the iPhoneX HDR icon to appear in camera, you need to go to Settings>Camera> Auto HDR > Switch to Off. Then the HDR icon will be in the camera screen. When Auto HDR is On the icon isn't there. Hope that helps just incase.
