@@darrenlamb5640 I remember the name from the Paul McCartney Beatles song “Rocky Raccoon”, which mentions “Gideons Bible”, which I believe is a group that put bibles in hotel rooms across the country. Personally I would never open up a bible, but it works for some people I guess. This is from memory so excuse me if I get some of it wrong: Rocky raccoon, fell back into his room, only to find Gideons Bible. Well Gideon checked out, and he left it no doubt, to help with good Rocky’s revival.

Just bought a Kansbol and took it for its maiden voyage in the George Washington National Forest. It did everything I needed it to do. It really does feel good in your hand. The blade was super sharp from the factory and I was super happy with it. I got the orange knife in case I ever dropped it, it would be easier to spot.

Mora 2000 was designed as a hunting knife. The compound grind (thin tip) is there to make it easier to skin game and cut sinews in joints. It was quickly and lovingly adopted by all kinds of outdoor people. The kansbol is basically mora 2000 3.0. The mora 2010/bushcraft forest being the 2.0. The garberg is fashioned after the mora 2000/2010/kansbol, not vice versa.

Anyone looking to purchase their first Mora would do well to watch this review . Thanks Aaron , as always , for this very objective , honest and practical assessment of these outrageously popular bushcraft / survival blades . I actually like the sheaths on my Moras (regular Companion MG & High Q Allround) but would have to agree that the belt clips are a bit awkward and less than ideal . Since I usually carry my Mora inside the pack (always rocking my mid-size SRK instead) , the clip isn't really an issue for me , but instead have added a hi-vis paracord lanyard , girth hitched around and through the belt clip hole , that is highly adjustable for length , so that when in camp it can be used as a dangler , a neck carry , a tree hanger , etc. Perhaps someone might find this carry mod idea useful . It has definitely improved things here ! All the best . Glenn

The Companion is also available in orange and black. Also, the sheath harks back to their original purpose as knives for on site, fishing, etc, so you can attach it to the pocket of a shirt, safety harness, or whatever. I love the vintage laminated steel Mora knives that you can sometimes stumble upon. Current production laminated steel Mora knives are good as well, but I like to think that the vintage ones are just a tad bit better. They are also completely ambidextrous and the laminated steel makes for easy upkeep of that scandi-grind. Personally, I also like the old school 510 (the new 511 is ok, too), especially for the price and the 440 (Scout model, sadly discontinued) as well as the Mora 106, which is hard to beat for a dedicated woodcarving knife.

My GoTo Mora 90% of the time 'had' been the Bushcraft Stainless Survival Orange package. The other 10% was mainly ice-fishing with the 2000 or the collaboration Light-My-Fire. Bushcraft Black tactical in Moly just in the collection. Since obtaining Garberg 14c28N --- it is the #1 carry 90% of time mixing it up w/ the Eldris on occasion. I have the Kansbol... but it mainly hangs out in multi-mount as part of my Mora appreciation collection. If I had to say what is the best MORA (and only 1)... I'd say go Stainless Garberg in Leather Sheath. Multi-mount is only a good selection viable to reliable retention when creatively modified. IF the 'all-arounder best was based on 'value' with multi-mode capability... Companion, Robust , and Craftline HighQ Allround. 'Best' for little detailed task #1 classic & 511.

Kansbol is good, but the Classic 2 is better. Ergonomics are good with both, the blade on either can do the same work, and the cost is much less. The thickness of the Classic 2 spine is strong enough for “knife chores” and can easily filed to 90 degree angles. Outside the Classic line I do agree the Garberg and Kansbol have the best ergonomics and of these the Kansbol is best. Fancy steels are nice, but has a Mora Classic 2 ever broken due to poor steel?

Honestly, after using a bunch of Moras over a couple years, the heavy duty companion in stainless is the best. The sheath on the Kansbol is bad, no clip and no thumb ramp. Same with the no ramp for the Bushcraft Black. The Robust is a decent package but it's too small.

Moras are like razor blades. They are mass produced, cheap and nondescript...but they work, and work well. If you lose or break one, it's no big deal and it's not something you're going to hand down to your kids. Like potato chips or peanuts, you can't have just one. The Kansbol also got a better (imo) basic sheath and a perfect, 90 degree spine. Just saying. I still got the 2000 - love it, and for 10 USD or so less than the Kansbol I argue it’s the best value ever. By the way, the special blade design of the 2000/Kansbol is for skinning/flaying. Not that it’s bad for food prep, but it’s with that in mind it was designed. Hence the 2000’s popularity among (Scandinavian) hunters.

I think the market would welcome a 'Kansbol Robust ' option with the same handle, 14c28n, 2.5mm stock, plain Scandi grind with no funky tip. My favorite Mora is the old Buscraft Force: essentially it's a 2.5mm 12c27 version of the 'Black'. I do prefer the Kansbol handle, though. Imo 2.5mm w/o the secondary tip grind is the best blend of stiffness, strength, finesse and slicing ability. No need for full tang - 3/4 is fine.
@yukterez3 жыл бұрын
The best value Mora in my opinion is the 511, since it's only 5,- at the Hornbach store and it has a better index finger protection than the ones you call the best. I wouldn't use it for batoning, but for normal cutting and self defense I would chose the 511 over the more expensive ones. The belt clip does suck though since in theory it could be lost, so I fixed that with some duct tape to prevent it from coming loose, and I also installed a lanyard to sling around my wrist on the grip of the knife which would prevent it from getting knocked out of my hand in a self defense situation
@gunner43736 жыл бұрын
I would call it a draw between the Kansbol and the Mora 2000. The Kansbol has a lanyard hole and the sheath upgrade option but the 2000 has an even better handle in my opinion. I was very surprised that you don't like the Blacks handle, simply because with my small to medium hands it is by far my favorite. Been along time since I've commented, sorry about that.

I feel like this IS the best Mora IF paired with another cutting tool. With that in mind, if this is put to the right uses, it should last forever. That said, if you plan to carry only one cutting tool, which most of us wouldn’t even think about doing, the Garberg is the better choice. I do wish the Kansbol was 14c28n. I concur. I especially like it as a hiking and fishing knife - lightweight, versatile in both use and carry, supremely ergonomic, and with the high temperatures, humidity, and salt in my environment, easy to maintain.

Great demonstration of the different capabilities. I agree that Kansbol is the best tool for the money.

You make some of if not the best gear videos on KZbin... at least the most honest and consistent!

Great video. Garberg all the way. Although I do have HD Companions in all my kits as a backup/camp knife.

I don't see the low price as 'best'. The best it's the better steel, better capacity, better longevity, better edge....... But not lower price. Anyway. I gravitate more with the 2000 more cushion handle, polish blade, rough spine, for me it's an upgrade Kansbol. Garberg rude and 2000 Precision it's for me the best duo. Great review !

👍 Good video. You did a very job defending/explaining your choice on the best value Mora knife, while admitting it was not your favorite Mora knife. I was surprised the Mora Classic 2 and 3 were not in the comparison. I would argue the Mora Classic 2 is the best value and with the new Classic 2(c) with a full length tang (not available when your video was made) I would say it is also my favorite Mora knife. But, personal preferences aside good video.

The best mora is the 1988 junior scout model with 2,5 inch blade and dual guards. I stabbed myself in the right ankle THROUGH my shoe and felt nothing. Only when the blood filled my shoe I noticed it was wet and full of what must be blood and that prompted 5 yo me to run back into the cabin for help. I still have it and I plan on attaching it to my plate carrier/ belt as a backup memento blade.

From the Mora web page...so straight from the horses mouth "Mora Robust This knife is designed and intended for Scandinavian construction workers. Here, our priority is a sharp and durable edge with a good grip, which means that the look of the spine isn’t a high priority feature. You are more than welcome to use any of our knives for your intended needs, but keep in mind that the spine will be “raw” (not grinded) on most craftsmen and construction knives. Therefore, it’s not compatible with a fire starter." Even the Mora company is perplexed about you people using a craft-knife as a bush-craft knife. The Robust is meant to be used by construction workers and is not to be relied on in a life and death situation....Just saying :p

After seeing the DBK boys hammer one of those things into a tree stump and stand on it, though, I'd trust a Mora Robust in a life and death situation.

I hope Morakniv brings out a carbon Kansbol. I’d buy/use that. I enjoy the stainless Kansbol already. It’s great in the kitchen.

I never felt the need for something more expensive than a Mora Companion. Grind down the spine to a true 90° and drill a lanyard hole (easy, as it has a 3/4 tang) and you're good to go. Never lost one from my belt, the belt clip never broke and only one time the lanyard got caught on a branch and pulled the knife out of the sheath which I noticed immediately. Stay safe and take care

Agree with your choice and came to this same conclusion a little while back, as I am about to buy one. Of course, the ultimate Mora would be the Kansbol in full tang.

the 2000 has the same blade and the handle is a classic oval
