How To Use The NEW Android Auto

A video tutorial how to set up and use the new Android Auto update for 2019. If you are still getting the old Android Auto when you set up, change the setting through the Android Auto App on your phone, and if you are having trouble getting Android Auto to work at all make sure the all of your phone software is up to date and you have a good cable and all that good stuff. Android Auto is not quite at straightforward as Apple Car Play, but it works when the stars align for it.

Hello nice video by the way my first time here. I am thinking about replacing my unit in my 2009 C300 Mercedes with one of these units that you guys are talking about but my question is I would like to use the Wireless feature instead of plugging my phone in all the time and keeping it plugged in if I'm understanding you guys I would have to buy a head unit with that feature? Also I've read on here most people that are using the wireless connection say it's not good what is your thought on that?

If you're looking at adding Android Auto to your 2009 Mercedes it will depend on which aftermarket unit you choose. Some will have wireless connection, some won't. I have not actually used wireless Android Auto, but I will tell you from experience that Android Auto can be sensitive enough about things, a wireless connection might add one more level of complexity to cause issues and that might be why some people don't like it.

As long as you have the latest version of Samsung Music on your phone it should be compatible with Android Auto and show up on the screen in your car.

In my experience, CarPlay works much better. I just bought a Pixel 4 from using an iPhone 8, both on latest software. CarPlay is pretty amazing and the interface is super clean. One thing I love with Apple and CarPlay, my passenger can open maps, search, and setup navigation. With AA, they have to unplug the device or I have to use voice commands. Unless I'm missing something in the setup, is there a way my passenger can open Google Maps while using AA without unplugging my Pixel 4?

Yes they'll work with both. Make sure the Forester you buy is a 2019 model or newer for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility.

I am assuming you already have the Android Auto app downloaded onto the phones, because it won't work without that. Other than that it looks like there is some Honda specific way to disable Android Auto on the car, and you have to re-activate it. I had the same problem with my pioneer NEX 8201. It keep saying USB incompatible . I went to Walmart and bought a Belkin Brand USB C cable . The app does say to use a quality USB cable . It is now working good .

@@briansmith6640 There are different USB cords. Since you want to transfer a lot of data, the better the wire, the more easier the data will come across. (it's really not the wire but the electronics that are in the plug end). If you ever tried to use a different cord to charge your Droid phone it will not charge as fast as the cord that came with the phone would be an example. I had trouble using Android Auto with a plain USB cord. If you read the manual it suggests to use the cord that came with the phone. Mine had become frayed from use, so I purchased one on Amazon and have had not problems connecting to AA since I started using it.

If anyone is having problems with volume problems using the new Android Auto update the most likely problem is with the Sirius XM app on your phone if you use this app . If you notice with the Android there are now 2 Sirius XM screens, the original and the app from your phone that pops up on your screen that puts up the artist's album cover. What it seems to be doing is competing with the volume or messing up the volume controls. The only way I solve this problem was delete the Sirius XM app from phone and the problem was solved. Android auto needs to fixed this .

I had this problem, it was the USB cable I was using. You need a short good quality one, I got a Anker PowerLine II from Amazon £7 and now it works seemlessly.

On a 2018 Focus Bluetooth and Android Auto are two different things, you need to connect your phone via a USB cable to use Android Auto. If your 2018 Focus isn't equipped with the Sync3 system, it won't have Android Auto compatibility at all. Assuming the car has Sync3, first thing I would try is updating the software on the phone to see if that makes a difference. Uninstall and re-install the Android Auto app if you can. If that doesn't work, try a brand new high-quality cable to see if that helps. If non of that works try another phone with the car to see if another phone works, to figure out if the issue is with the car or the phone.

I see this video was done in September 2019. There has been a system update. Now there is a massive problem with Android Auto. It no longer projects to the screen of the car. I have tried 3 different phone. The update appears to have caused a massive problem. I have even received an e,ail from AA explaining it has been fixed. But it has not. Does any one have any answers

I bought a new car last Sep, the Android Auto worked perfectly. I could use talk to text for text messages and talk to text for Facebook Messenger. I put my car away into storage in November, took it out in mid March...(at some point AA updated) now I no longer get messages, or notifications. It forces my phone into Do Not Disturb mode and will not hang up if I make a phone call using it. I had to disconnect Bluetooth. Hey Google or Ok Google no longer works. This is ridiculous. I need help... I have a Hyundai 2016 Santa Fe Ultimate and I am unable to get android Auto on the factory head unit. They tell me that I should not change the head unit because it would interfere with the AC...ANY IDEAS? Based on what I can tell Android Auto was not available on the Santa Fe until 2017, which means it probably won't work at all with your 2016 model unless you swap the head unit. There are several aftermarket options for you, but If they are going to mess with the climate control, maybe not the best choice. My biggest problems with android auto. 1) when I reply to a text now in between it saying what do you want to say and sending and so on I get a half sec of whatever I was listening to on my radio. 2) when I connect my phone by the cord it will automatically start up the last time I was listening to on my phone while it was hooked up to the truck whether it was my music, spotify, iheart or whatever.

Some cars are starting to go with wireless Android Auto, but most still need cables. You just need a USB cable that is compatible with your phone and will handle data transfer and is in good condition. Old frayed cables don't work well.

It's more about what version of Android OS is on your phone. As long as you can Download the Android Auto app from the Google Play store on your phone and the app works Android Auto should work.

Mine is personally way faster than shown in this video in my 2019 Mk7 Jetta. I wonder if all the Subaru units are this slow. Out of all the cars I've had with Android Auto, VW seems to utilize it the best. Only down side is you cannot see what media is playing in your gage cluster, will just say " android auto " in my last car, 2019 Kia Optima SX-L it displayed what was playing in Android Auto. Same with my 2018 Chevy Equinox 2.0T. So not sure why it isnt enabled on VW cars.

Try hitting the square on the bottom right of your Android phone and swiping up on the maps apps when they are not in use, that should stop it from using data because the app will be closed out.

I have my old Samsung Galaxy s7 connected via bluetooth to my new (slightly used) Hyundai Palisade. I've just downloaded and installed Android Auto on my phone. Based on a quick internet search it looks like the Palisade still requires the cable connection for Android Auto, it doesn't look like its wireless in that vehicle. Try connecting it with a cable and going through the setup I show in this video it should work.

You have to add the favorites on your phone first (go into the contact screen and hit the little star icon) and then they will show up on the Android Auto. You can't actually add a favorite through Android Auto.

Suppose you're traveling through an area with weak cell signal and trying to use Google maps. You would be unable to use guidance, correct? I'll just continue to use my Garman GPS, works well and never loses satellite signal.

If you have no cell service you won't be able to see the maps unless you set your destination while you still have cell service, then it will download the map data just for that trip

Try un-installing and re-installing the android auto app and making sure the phone software is up to date. If that doesn't work get another android phone and try it, that way you will isolate if the problem is with the car or the phone.

I have Android Auto downloaded on my Note 20+ Ultra and the app does not show up with all my other apps either. If you go to the top of one of your app pages, click on search at the top of the screen, type in Android Auto and it will appear there.

In my experience, you do not need to allow the head unit access to your contacts or messages. That's to allow the stereo to be used in the old dumb way they used to work where Subaru would manage your voice commands etc. With Android Auto, you only need to accept permissions once IN the Android Auto app. All the permissions are between your phone and Android Auto. The car is just mirroring the interface.

I've hooked a lot of Android phones to a lot of Android Autos for customers and this is the most consistent way to get it to function. Android Auto is finicky and it'll go on strike for weird reasons.

So your voice commands used to work but they do not anymore, correct? Did they stop working after a phone update or some other change like that? I use the Bluetooth audio streaming in my own car to listen to KZbin videos while driving (not android auto), but you're not going to be able to WATCH them without doing some serious hacking. Per federal law (in the USA at least) it is illegal to show moving videos on the front screens of cars, so it's not something you can normally do.

I would actually try a different cord, a brand new one if you happen to have one around. The cord you're currently using might be starting to have issues internally and that may be causing the problem

No specific suggestions but a good quality cable is the best bet. Those ones that sell for $3 at the gas station probably aren't the best choice for Android Auto because it does need to maintain a constant connection

I've seen this happen before, only tip I can offer is make sure all of your system software is up to date, and if you update it and keeps happening un-install the android auto app and go through the whole setup again. I have a Moto G Fast and for some reason I am unable to connect my phone to my car. I just bought a 2021 Civic Hatchback and haven't been able to connect to It with my phone. But my gf was able to connect with her S8. Do I need a new phone? I don't get any errors, It just doesn't let me connect.

Your phone should work, try updating the software if it needs it and try a brand new cable also.

Typically I would advise updating the software on the phone, since you got the car to work with another phone it seems like the car is probably functioning fine. Try a different cord, Android Auto can be weirdly sensitive. If that doesn't work uninstall and re-install the android auto app on the phone and see if that does anything

The Android Phone I used to make the video is a Motorola Play e5. I did use an iPhone as well in the video but that was just to demonstrate the voice to text feature of Android Auto.

Unfortunately Toyota has refused Android Auto until now and most new Toyota's still don't have Android Auto. Also, Toyota has no plans to upgrade older models

Yeah they were pushing their Scout GPS as an alternative but it wasn't what the people wanted. Hopefully they'll get with the program over the next couple of model years.

Well all the info I can find says to open the android auto app, click the three lines at the top left of the screen, go to settings and turn on try new android auto, but it sounds like you've already done that. I would try un-installing android auto from the phone, and then plugging the phone into the car so it prompts you to do all the setup stuff again, and see if that helps.

Make sure all of your software has the newest versions on your phone, uninstall and re-install Android Auto app, and make sure your car is Android Auto Compatible

It's weird that you only get them part of the time, but to turn notifications on or off, on your phone go Launch Android Auto app > Settings > Tap Show message notifications, maybe try cycling that on and off a couple times. If that doesn't work see if turning the phone off and on helps.

Well don't drive the car while doing the setup that would be a disaster. After its set up and working you can do pretty much everything with voice commands so it works pretty well and you're able to keep your eyes on the road.

I have not experienced this problem myself but it seems to be common based on forum posts I have seen. Suggested solutions are the usual suspects: disconnect and re-connect the phone, un-install and re-install android auto, make sure the phone is updated, etc. There does not seem to be one magic bullet to fix it. Hopefully a future update for android auto will eliminate this problem. As a workaround I would recommend unplugging the phone from the car when you don't need the full android auto capability, and using bluetooth audio streaming to listen to music from your phone, if that is what you're trying to do. If your car is equipped with android auto it should have bluetooth audio streaming. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance!

@@CarDietrich Yes my SUV has android auto, and apple car play. I use Google maps alot everyday for work. I been everywhere as well looking for the fix, but I cant find it anywhere. Android auto only works when I restart my phone when connected. Crazy right. Everything is updated as well. I did try everything you said to try no fix. I think I'm going back to Apple. No problem, I will tell you in my experience Apple CarPlay has a lot less issues than Android Auto, it's much easier to set up and the user experience is cleaner. I have both an Android for work and an iPhone for my personal phone, so I'm not super biased one way or the other, but yeah Apple CarPlay is cleaner overall. Thank you so much for watching!

It was Apple Maps that was telling people to drive the wrong way and leading them down dead end roads, and in some cases people actually died because they were so lost they couldn't find their way out. Most people were lucky and got rescued before they actually died. Not to mention showing destinations in the middle of a lake or river, and showing places that had no road leading to them. This is why Apple now has Google Maps.

If you use the voice command to tell the phone to call someone when google maps is active in the car, you should be able to talk on the phone that way

@@CarDietrich Thank you, I'll give it a try. Before when I tried to call out and people to call in, people said they couldn't call in-it would connect them immediately to voice mail. Calling out it would say phone not available at this time. I suspect it had something to do with that do not disturb mode being activated when AA was launched? I then just started using Google Maps on my phone screen not plugged into the Aux port, so it didn't connect to my car screen. This allowed both incoming and outgoing calls to work fine, but it was also a big PITA having to pick up my phone each time to see the map.

Unfortunately the Do Not Disturb thing with Android Auto is kind of infamous for not being able to turn it off, and for messing around with incoming calls. Google claims it will still let incoming calls through, but this does not seem to be the case
