If you are on an ipad with a home button how do you get from an app to the homescreen? Or how to get the app switcher? All demo videos are using iPad Pro which has some different functions.

Don't know how a regular ipad works, but you could try to enable assistive touch and then click on it as if you were pressing the home button.

I'm really looking forward to Tuesday when I can install this on my iPad without putting it in to the beta program. It looks like apple has put a lot of thought in to cursor implementation in to iPadOS though I would not exactly call this their very first release as cursor support really started with iPadOS 13 3rd quarter last year with assistive touch, this is their second release of it.

Many people will disagree with you, many people need an even bigger screen, for example, musicians who work with sheet music. The screen of today's largest iPad is still smaller even than a standard sheet of A4 paper. 12.9" is huge? Don't make me laugh.

Very helpful video. But one thing to note is that some of the features shown like configuring a 3rd mouse button, or scrolling in the App Switcher only works if Assistive Touch is turned on. Or else it doesn’t work, atleast when I use it with a Microsoft Modern Mouse.

I think this video overhypes mouse/trackpad support on iPad. Many of the things shown off in the video such as app side view and opening the app switcher were done the exact same way as you would with using your finger. And using a mouse would probably not make those tasks any faster. Although I don't believe this is the biggest thing to ever happen to the iPad, it is a great step forward. The best additions to mouse/trackpad support in my opinion is the ability to manipulate text just as you would on a computer, because before using your fingers to edit text was clunky at best. Mouse/trackpad support could also be very useful in touch sensitive apps like Excel were precision control is a necessity. Additionally, as rightfully shown off in the video having "right click" like functionality in certain apps like Files is also a big move forward. And finally I think my favorite addition for mouse support specifically is the ability to map certain buttons on your mouse to do as you please. I wasn't expecting Apple to let users do that and I give them props for that. Should you use a mouse/trackpad with your iPad? Generally I think the answer is no except for certain situations. iPadOS is still a touch first environment, meaning that simply using gestures will be as fast or faster than using a mouse. Now where I would use my Bluetooth mouse is typing up documents with a wireless keyboard. Again, being able to edit text like a proper computer is a big game changer and is yet another reason why I personally use my iPad as a laptop replacement. Anyway that was my two cents and I enjoyed the video :)

I have both the 12”9 iPad Pro 2nd (2017) and 3rd (2018) generations. I have old Magic Mouse (1 2009). The Magic Mouse (1) works just your tutorial on both iPads . So I thought that my older Magic Track (1 2010) might work too. The track pad doesn’t work on the 3rd generation iPad. I have not checked to see if the track pad will work on the 2nd generation iPad... will do. I would have thought this iPad would have fast charging and wireless charging. According to specs it does not. I miss were you can change the cursor color in the setup. Thanks to your tutorial I changed it’s color!

You can connect the Magic Mouse to iPad Pro with usb c to lightening cable to quickly pair. Same for magic keyboard. They will work with iPad even when u remove the cable after connecting once. And again if u want to pair with your iMac use the cable . It’s so easy this way instead of using Bluetooth pairing again and again. Single pair of both keyboard and mouse can be used with both iMac and iPad.

I am so glad this came up on my recommendation/what to watch list! I used my dads usb cable to plug in my usb dongle mouse that I have, and then I wanted to plug my iPad to the tv but then I would have to change out the adapter, and my dad couldn’t remembered where he put it last time and two days ago now (my 19th birthday was just two days ago - May 24) I wanted to get a Bluetooth mouse for my birthday, which I did and I am loving my Logitech M535 in black to match with my Logitech K380 keyboard! I downloaded and put up the latest iPad OS update with the new cursor and wasn’t liking the grey and wanted it to be in green. And my first thoughts was that Apple took away some options from the previous iPad OS updates with the mouse support. Now that I watched this video, I was wondering if Apple took the color options of the cursor and when I watched it, I was so happy that they didn’t and immediately went to my iPad to change the cursor color!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHOWING US THIS!!! Just made my day!!! 😍

The hardware is a very small update since previous iPad. I was definitely hoping for more HW wise especially the screen and SOC. Really dont care about the back cameras as well, as long as front facing cam and new microphones is really good. But iPad OS is getting really awesome!! This is really is becoming a laptop replacement and might become my first Apple device. Its everything I hoped Google would do with Android until they fcked it up and decided ChromeOS is the way to go. That said, there is still a few things I hope they fix in software and a few HW changes I can dream about SW 1. Multi user support like Android has had for many many years. Sharing a device like this in a family is so common. A guest mode too 2. Output to external screens at native external screens resolution e.g 4k 3. So happy they support external storage just keep expanding support for more filesystems pls, even if we have to pay for filesystem plugins afterwards 4. Work with Microsoft and Google to get office/docs feature complete with desktop versions 5. Keep working on that file browser 6. Final Cut.... HW 1. A second USBC port would be awesome 2.Micro SDCard Future 1. I was hoping they would have OLED or MiniLED in this release. 2. More powerful 5nm A14x SOC

Most of this functionality described in this video was introduced last year in IOS 13 through assistive touch. Any Bluetooth mouse works: I was able to set up and customize my Lenovo mouse in iOS13.3. No need to wait until 13.4 is released to use it

I would really love to just have a regular cursor and be able to use it with RDP applications. I know there are the swift point mouse options for RDP but I really wish I didn’t have to buy a $100+ swift point mouse to use RDP on iPad when I already have a bunch of mouse and trackpads that could work.

Great review very thorough, also surprised apple came out with an update like this now this actually pushes the envelope of is the iPad a computer. The only thing I can say that is holding it back now is the operating system. The iPad OS is still not a full desktop OS if they plan develop it it to be more and more like Mac OS and make the most popular desktop apps work on iPad maybe so you don't need an Mac or PC maybe it'll work. But for now surface is still King.

The one thing that kind of gets to me is that we are forced to turn on and off Accessibilty - Assisted touch in order to get rid of the “assisted touch” button that stays on the screen when you are not using the mouse. I set it in the control panel and need to turn it on and off when I use the mouse. It sounds like a little thing but it is def a pain in the ass no one mentions

Great video... question though, I saw you briefly go into Lightroom, but what about using a mouse in apps like Keynote. Affinity Designer, or photoshop, etc..I saw you have Keynote (and photoshop) on your iPad, have you used these apps with the mouse yet??? If so, how does it work?
