Well, the combination is great for your concerns. It may be beneficial to add an acid. Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid works well on dry acne/breakout skin, and Salicylic Acid works excellent on oily acne/breakout-prone skin. It is challenging to treat the breakouts I am always getting a few, and I don't really know why, I have tried so many things, and what works best for me is using Salicylic Acid + Benzoyl Peroxide as spot treatment so that they have no change for pigmentation( kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHu6Yqdnqb12fNE) Also, Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin tends to work great on dark spots. Most doctors recommend using a moisturizer when using H.A acid which is in the Alpha Butan Serum otherwise it will draw moisture from your skin. thanks for the video. I am using this routine at the moment to treat hyper pigmentation. I wonder how long until I see results
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but they are talking about Hyaluronic Acid in its pure form. There are many different forms, and The Ordinary uses Sodium Hyaluronate, which does not draw moisture out of the skin or when it's try. It does not have these properties anymore. To see results, it will take at least 1-3 months.

Oh wow, that's a lot of product. Here are the general recommendations from The Ordinary: Patch testing - We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. For more information on how to do a test patch, please visit our Patch Test Guide on The Ordinary website. Order of Application - We suggest using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. Generally, we recommend applying water-based solutions first, followed by oil formulations, and finally cream/suspension formulas. If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Acne - Just as a note - none of our products can be considered medical treatments for acne, so we suggest consulting with your physician to see what may work best for your skin. :-) Pregnancy - While each ingredient has been tested and is considered safe for topical application, DECIEM products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding people. When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol.

Hey😊 Well, I do not recommend using Niacinamide twice per day, as this may be a bit too much for the skin. So, if you want to use it in the PM, I recommend not using it in the AM - This way, the routine is a bit more balanced as well, and you're not using too many water-based serums in a row.😊

Hey😊 Your Routines could look like this: AM Routine: - Cleanse (Gentle Cleanser) - Hyaluronic Acid (Water-based serum) - Niacinamide (Water-based serum) - Alpha Arbutin (Water-based serum) - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanse (For best results use one with Glycolic Acid in it. The Hydroxy acid cleanser prepares the skin by lowering its pH and causing dead, flaky skin cells to let go of each other. - Vitamin C Suspension (Vitamin C is most effective when the skin’s pH is around 2 or 2.5) - (Optional) Moisturiser Depending on your skin type, you may have to slowly introduce a glycolic acid cleanser to your regimen, using it only a few times per week to start. Skinceuticals has a great cleanser “GLYCOLIC RENEWAL CLEANSER”. The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing. It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% cannot be used alongside any pure or ethylated forms of Vitamin C. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% can only be used alongside Vitamin C derivatives: - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% - Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F - Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% Hope this helps😊

Hello 🙂 , I do not see the need to use it when the skin produces enough oil. The natural oils that "seal" the moisture are still working, and if it is not faulty, I do not see it as beneficial. Generally, when you have dry skin, which may appear when you are older or suffer from certain skin diseases, you need it. Most people think that they need to lock in the moisture even when they do not need it.

AM Routine Daily: - Cleanse - Niacinamide - Alpha Arbutin - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine Daily: - Cleanse - Lactic Acid - Ascorbic acid + Alpha arbutin - Retinol - (Optional) Moisturiser PM 2 Routine (only 1-2 times per week): - Cleanse - Peeling Solution - (Optional) Moisturiser When using the peeling solution PM 2 Routine, please don’t use Lactic Acid on that day. The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Please note that with any active ingredient that affects skin behaviour, there can be an initial purging period during which breakouts are normal. Trying test patches of each new product first will allow you to identify whether you are sensitive or intolerant to a particular formulation. If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another. Also, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time. How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.

Are any of these products bad to use in combination or can’t mix together, or how many days you should leave between using different products. E.g I know Paula’s and Azelaic Acid are both exfoliating, so should I use them a few days apart and separate from eachother? I’m trying to fade PIE AND PIH and acne scars,Thanks! Xxx
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Connie, Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid also contains 0,5% of Salicylic Acid, so the added 2% of the BHA may not be needed. Personally, I feel that it works best to alternate these formulations. But it is not wrong to use them in the same routine. My advice would be to use them as follows: PM1 Cleanser BHA Alpha Arbutin PM2 Cleanser Niacinamide Azelaic Acid or Azelaic Acid mixed with a few drops of Niacinamide also works well. (if you are using Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid if you use The Ordinary layer them as otherwise, it may lead to pilling docdro.id/eqdojIU) There are multiple possibilities, and you need to see what is working best for you. When using them during the day, use sunscreen on top because they may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. So if you have direct sun exposure, it is recommended especially if you are fighting acne scars and skin discolouration.

Hey! :) The Ordinary recommends keeping their Niacinamide and Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid/Ethylated Ascorbic Acid) products in separate routines. So, you can use Niacinamide, Alpha Arbutin and Azelaic Acid in the AM and Alpha Arbutin and one of the Vitamin C Suspensions (I recommend Silicone) in the PM.

Hey, Melissa. I've been using this routine every night (along with a Cerave moisturizer and sunscreen during the day) since mid-November and haven't noticed much, if any, changes to my acne, hyperpigmentation or pore size. I was wondering if this routine is one that takes a long time to see consistent results or if I could possibly be doing something wrong? What I really wanted to target was my shallow acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, since I've had them for years now. I truly haven't noticed any drastic changes though, and it's going to be about 4 months now since I started. Should I continue with this routine or would you recommend making any changes? Any help is greatly appreciated!

It's interesting to hear that. I have followed a similar routine for a few weeks, and I have had ups and downs. I have tested multiple combinations on my spots, and I have had the best experience with Benzoyl Peroxide (for "fresh" acne) and Retinol. I think it's not going to work if the pigmentation is older or if the spots are already present for a more extended period. I recently had a subscriber that mentioned that he/she used Vitamin C serum for about 1 year and had seen so much improvement that the areas where she used it became lighter than the rest of her face. 😆 Based on this, I would argue that you will have the best experience with a good Vitamin C product, such as Paula's Choice Vitamin C 15 and a Retinoid and a Benzoyl Peroxide cream. I also want to mention that I cannot get rid of it entirely I am trying hard, and most videos online must be fake, or the people/influencer already had beautiful skin before using those products since it does not work the way they describe it. It's a real struggle and very difficult to treat acne and stubborn pigmentation issues. 😞 I think that genetic factors play a significant role and that it's not so much about what we eat or do or how we wash our face etc. You can try the products I mentioned, but this means that you need to buy new stuff. 😞 Sorry, I can't help you much with this.

I think most comes because of hydroquinone, so I'm not sure if you really need to use Alpha Arbutin. Maybe just stick to Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid in the morning and protect it with a good sunscreen (if exposed to the sun). And if you want to wear makeup during the day and you wear sunscreen, wait at least 5-10minutes before you apply it on top. And use your hydroquinone in the evening. But generally, hydroquinone is a medical treatment, and I advise sticking to the recommendation of your doctor or pharmacist :)

This is basically up to you; there is no right and wrong; the Ordinary says the following: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). But yes, your skincare routine looks excellent. However, I am not sure if it will help you with your hormonal acne, I struggle with hormonal acne as well, and the only thing that helped me was Benzoyl peroxide and Retinol. But it's still there, and I only use it when it pops up, but it has become much better.

Hello, I assume that you meant Azelaic Acid. The Ordinary Azelaic Acid has Dimethicone as the third ingredient, which means that is it a lot. Therefore it is usually used as the last step. But if your moisturizer is vaseline or another one that includes high amounts of Petrolatum, it may be vice versa. And depending on your skin type (if it is oily), I wouldn't use a moisturizer at all. So, in general, you need to test it to see what works best for your skin.

This looks great! You can use the moisturiser before or after Azelaic Acid, see what works and feels the best. Or, you can skip the moisturiser when using Azelaic Acid. Glycolic Acid is going to be applied in the PM after your first step - cleansing.

Sometimes even though I use three drops and Pat my skin feels tacky in between serums. It eventually dries down but is this normal?

Have you tried to use less? It can happen yes, especially when using 2 or 3 water-based serums. Make sure that it is able to soak into the skin😊

Hi ma'am can i apply peeling solution together this routine?

The best you can do is just using hydration after the peeling solution. And I recommend using this routine when not using the peeling solution.

hello, I am using soothing gels (some of it has ceramides, some does not) that turns into water when applied to skin. Should I apply azelaic acid first or the gel?
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial

Use the serums at first, then follow with the gel at first and then with Azelaic Acid.

Hello again :) I am not sure if this works well with the Azelaic Acid Suspension. ( I mean to layer it properly) You have to try it and see how it goes :)

Melissa Van Dijk thankie! I’m gonna try without it first. What moisturizer do you recommend?
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial 4 жыл бұрын
@@wellamary7001 Well this depends on your skin type and needs. So this is very individual. And honestly, you have to try them. I do not use moisturizers very often, I mainly use Antioxidants or Suspensions like the Azelaic Acid.

Hey, yes you can use the Ordinary products under makeup, just make sure to keep your skin well hydrate and smooth (as sometimes the skin can be a bit too dry which you'll notice when applying makeup on top) and/or maybe use a primer or the one from the ordinary and then apply your makeup on top.😊

Hi Melissa... I'm about to follow this skincare routine for PM. Can give me suggestion for AM skincare routine. I have alpha arbutin, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and azelaid acid now or should i add any other product for AM routine? Coz i saw ur other comment was saying that need not to use azelaid acid twice per day. So im thinking what to replace azelaid acid for my AM routine. My main concern is dark spot/hyperpigmentation issue. Thanks in advance

Hello again. Hm.. well okay you can already watch the Powerpoint for the video that I am uploading tomorrow see here: docdro.id/rcF6MNW Please if you use it for social media link to my channel thank you :) Also for more information you need to watch the video tomorrow ;) Regarding the Azelaic Acid, it really depends on what you want to use it and what strength you are using. One study used 15% or 20% once a day, and it showed that it would have the same effect when using it twice a day. Here we are only using 10%, and it may be useful to use it twice a day I am really not sure about this. I am currently using it in the morning and evening, and I am doing a split-face study on myself, and I will upload the results in a couple of weeks 🙂
