I love my Platinum 6. The small footprint is the reason I picked that machine. It’s perfect. I always get great cuts and then it folds up for easy clean up.

I'm new to paper crafting and just bought a Cricut, which I love. I notice many people have both a Cricut and a Spellbinder machine. I'd like to know what are the benefits of having a Spellbinder if I already have a Cricut Maker and Joy. Thanks

Hi there! Great question, a lot of our friends have a Spellbinders machine because there are so many beautiful thin metal dies that you can use. You can even cut or emboss through other materials like felt, foam, thin fabric, and vinyl! I bought the Plantinum 8.5 and it's BIG yes. Went with several smaller both manual and electric machines. BUT hated two and they ruined 3 brandnew 3D embossing/cutting pates by Tim Holtz the fancy impressits I believe they are called. SO I am now considering buying the P-6 to use as my main smaller machine. Note initially I did blame the other machines but I believe the media I was cutting was the real culprit. It was a sizzix specialty material very thick and tough. I can only find a KZbin video using it to make a clutch purse not die cuttiing it despite it says it die cuts. An amazon reviewer shows it embosses well. So I will be embossing in the future when I use it first. And they cutting it out after that but not using the fancy dies that warped so bad they could not be restored. Just thought I'd make a note of that. (I bought the tough metalic media to make durable corner embellishements for note books and music lyric books I make. I may just make rectangles that I emboss until I experiment further and find success cutting it too. (I have lots of rolls of this media in 5 different colors so invested big time before I discovered the difficulties. Also another note the Plantium allows us to experiment with different depths of shims as it has a big wide opening and at least two of my other machines was much shallower making it very fixed for attempting thicker material and cardstock.

does it have to be cardstock? can i use scrapbook paper with the dies?

Yes, you may have to cut the paper down to the size of the opening, so that it fits through the machine!

I'm having some real issues with the fsj version platinum 6 machine. The sandwiches as indicated on the platform do not work. Embossing folders will not emboss unless i put another shim in, I've been using cardboard that I thankfully saved from some old boxes. I'm trying to use the spellbinders steel rule die now and again the sandwich does not work as indicated in the manual. I tried the steel rule die with 4 sheets of cardstock and both cutting plates like it says in the manual and it won't go in. If i take a plate away it wont cut. I ended up just putting 2 sheets of cardstock (really defeats the purpose of the steel rule die at this point) and the cracking and deep cuts into the cutting plate don't seem normal. I can understand having to maybe work around with some shims when using embossing folders from other brands but even with the spellbinders embossing folders and dies, the sandwich as dictated by the platform NEVER works. This is really frustrating

I love using a hand-crank machine because you have the ability to manually position printed material to create exactly what you want down to the slightest movement of your own hand. Unlike an electronic Cricut that doesn't show true artistic talent. -JBbyAZ

Hello, it would of been great, if you could of displayed it cutting a die & embossing an image. Actually i'm still using my small Sizzix embosser that die cuts, i've been wanting a larger machine, so far i've been picking all the wrong ones. But after returning 2 back, i've decided on the Spellbinder Platinum 6, i expect it tomorrow, so i'm excited. Well i got the Spellbinder 6 today, i wish i had good news, but i don't, i tried out the embossing, it seemed to work fine, but when i tried the die cut, it did not cut, not even i piece of card stock, then i tried just a folded piece of construction paper, i followed the instructions to the (T), i just don't get it why it didn't cut, it just cut a tiny bit on a few edges, but 95 % didn't cut at all, i am absolutely sure that i put on correctly, too, this was very frustrating to me to say the least.
