How to use the rear brake caliper tool on your Ford Edge 2011 plus model year

This video will demonstrate the use of the caliper tool from NAPA. This tool will accomplish the turning of the caliper piston while pushing the piston in during the reversal process. The brake pads wear and the piston turns out and extends. Pretty simple tool but does take some effort and some strong hands to accomplish the job.

I tried to push the piston back in with a C- clamp like I had done a hundred times before...then I saw this video, thanks MACTFORDEDGE . I had bought a replacement caliper thinking the original one was frozen.

I strongly urge folks that are going to do the rear brakes on their Edge to take MacT's advice on this one. I purchased one of those cube style caliper tools thinking I would save a few $$ and be able to keep the tool. BIG waste of time. Did not work at all. I ended up using a C-clamp, a channel lock, way too much time, and most of the curse words I know ! Wished I had the caliper tool Mac describes above!!

He also points out the importance of lining up the notches on the piston and the tabs on the brake shoes. Other videos do not make this clear. Great video.

When using this tool to turn the Piston back in for new pads, you don't need to open up the bleeder screw at all correct?! Thanks for sharing all of your experience and knowledge with the group MACT...Much appreciated!

Does a 2014 Edge Sport have Maintenance Mode when working on the rear brakes ?

I sure wish I would have found this video before I changed my rear disc pads on our 2011 Ford Edge. I did not align the notches on the face of the piston to the top of the park brake.. The tab on the shoe was placed on the outside of the rotor facing out. So how serious is that overlook ? Do I absolutely need to re-do this ? The brakes seem to be working fine.

You could try to pull the caliper loose and see if you got lucky and the notches somehow slid into position through use.

They catch on the brake caliper piston and cause the piston to turn and keep the emergency brake tight. The new rear calipers also double as the emergency brakes. Not saying unsafe but may cause uneven brake pad wear.

I used those also. Buy I think didn't align the part you said or the caliper is bad cause the disk heats. up and smells like burning metal
