I think this is the most informative and well presented sewing video I have seen. I am a professional dressmaker and it's great to see a film that actually gives me the full information and all aspects on a subject. Great presenter. Thank you. Stephanie Powell, UK.

Very nicely done video. I used a ruffler-foot decades ago, but had forgotten how it worked. EXCELLENT job. THANKS.

Hi Alexa, I bought mine on Ebay. I have a Janome Sewing Machine and was able to find the ruffler for a Janome. There are other rufflers there that go with other machines, one of them being a Singer I believe. I love my ruffler, and started using it easily after watching this video.

Thanks so much! I've read and watched a dozen tutorials and you were the only one to mention the set screw. Maybe I'm a little obsessive, but I like to understand all the features of my gadgets; especially since some of them take awhile to master. I plan to mess up quite a few scraps before I get this right. Your advice will be a tremendous help in shortening the learning curve. :)

I love this video!.. I have followed it to use my own ruffler foot, on my Janome, and Brother sewing machines. I am wondering if you might make a tutorial on how to figure the finished length, on a project, such as a throw pillow, or a window curtain valance.

This is so awesome. My ruffler foot pleats perfectly but when it's set to gather (1 on the dial) it appears to work, but the stitches all come loose when I pull the fabric out of the machine. I can't figure out why it won't sew the gathers down on this setting. Any advice you have would be so very appreciated!!!

I would make sure that you have the top and bobbin thread tails pulled out and held securely behind your foot as you start. Put in a sharp needle like a jeans 80 or 90 to make sure you are penetrating the fabric and your stitches are able to form. Also, double check that the bobbin thread is in the tension. Hope this helps!

Yes. I would start with a fairly stiff ribbon like grosgrain. If you want to use a thinner or silky ribbon, stiffen it first with a fabric stiffener like Best Press. DON'T use spray starch from the grocery store as it can flake off into your machine and gum up the workings. One of our customers did this with excellent results as an embellishment for her quilt. Good luck!

Great video- I just got this foot and this was very helpful. I'm curious, when I draft my own patterns, how do I figure out how much this is gathering so I create the right size pieces. Does that make sense?

What a great video...thank you. I just bought a Singer ruffler foot that claimed to fit any model...I have a Janome 8050. It doesn't want to fit around the shank that holds the needle, nor hook over the screw. Did I get the wrong foot?

THANK YOU!! Excellent tutorial. Your detailed explanations made this scary looking "thing", not so scary anymore!! I was able to make my first ruffles with this. However, my bobbin thread keeps getting jammed up, any ideas why this could be happening? Thanks again for your great video!

Hello I'm hoping you can help me. I just got my ruffler foot I was so excited to start with my project. I watched many videos on youtube and thought it was going to be easy. Well not for me. The bobbin thread keeps balling up. If typing with the original foot that came with the machine it sews just fine. I changed the tension and everything else and nothing seems to work. I have a Brother LS-2000 sewing machine and have only had it for a couple of months so I'm brand new to sewing. thank you

Have you worked this out? You will need to press the stitch button under the screen, then use the arrows to the right of the screen to choose the stitch menu you want to use. Reference the chart inside the lid and use the keypad to type in the number of the stitch you wan to use. Hope this helps!

help please. your video was very informative, but no matter what i do, my ruffler just doesn't work. i've watched several different videos and tried everything mentioned. i've used two different rufflers on two different machines (they are universal rufflers). no matter what stitch setting i put it on, it gathers when it chooses or sews straight at its own whim. or if it should accidentally gather correctly, when i pull it out of the machine all the stitches come loose. thanks for your time.

@hmongyanggirl As another viewer mentioned, the ruffler is not for the serger. You can do gathers on the serger, though: Increase your differential to 2 and increase your stitch length for the maximum amount of gathers. This gives you gathers... If you want pleats, you need to use the ruffler on your sewing machine as demoed. Happy serger shopping! If you're in Burlington, ON check us out!

I want to make a pleated curtain to put on my shelf. I was to ruffle it, and then from and inch down i was to add a piece of material to lay on the she instead of stapling or tacking it down. Can this be done? I am limited on the scraps i want to use. I have 2 pieces of 144 inches and 12-14 inches long. This is the idea I have but not sure it will work. Please advise. Thanks
