Hi Jen - bought my twin needle - my machine apparently has a 7mm swing so I have purchased a 2mm and a 4mm - one for straight stitching and the other for fancy stitches. Can't wait for your twin needle videos for more fancy sewing work LOL. Thank you - Linda x

Wow! Thank you for this video. My Sears Kenmore 62-year old machine can do twin needles - I just never took the time to try it. Now I will. Thank you so much for teaching this. Very valuable and useful lesson. I will try some fancy threads, too. Always love your videos, too. Kathleen

I had a double needle with my old Universal machine that I bought way back in 1969. Great to use for top stitching trim on wearables.

Thank you so much for this video, I have a twin needle that came with my BabyLock Ellure Plus sewing/embroidery machine and did not know what to do with it , nor did I have the time to go through the manual to figure it out myself, until today! I really appreciate you for these types of videos.

Joining in with the comments below, I've had the capacity for twin needles for years and have been intimidated by the idea of them...I think I may even have a couple in my sewing drawer, but I've never opened them...now, I think it's time. Thank you for this video...I'm making custom design rice bags right now, so no metallic threads, would kill the microwave, but at some point, I will try the metallic threads also. Blessings!

You don't actually want to set your machine up for a zigzag stitch, a straight stitch is what you want to use. The bobbin zigzags automatically between the two threads when you're stitching. The twin needle is great for top stitching on knits and hems on garments also.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 жыл бұрын
Correct! The bobbin thread zig-zags but nothing on the machine actually physically zig-zags (just the thread)! Thanks for watching :)

I wouldn't care for the pattern that it would make on the back side of the quilt, I don't think the zig-zag would be very pretty. So, try on a scrap and see what happens. I do love the twin needles for hemming knit t-shirts and things like that.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 жыл бұрын
You could use a thread in the bobbin that matches your backing well to have it blend in a bit more to avoid seeing it :)

With that metallic thread Do you have to Use the same thread on the bobbin or can you use regular poly?

We use our regular 40-50wt cotton thread in the bobbin when we work with metallic threads. Hope this helps! -Michelle

Do you set the stitch to zigzag or leave it on straight stitch?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 жыл бұрын
You leave it on straight stitch! The bobbin thread will just naturally zig-zag back and forth between the two threads :)
@mgs783
@mgs783 6 жыл бұрын
So you use a straight stitch and the bobbin sews zig zag?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 жыл бұрын
Correct - the bobbin thread kind of zig-zags between the two straight stitches :)

Want to try this, confused on straight stitch/ zigzag, am I setting the machine to zigzag or straight stitch? Or does the bobbin automatically do zigzag underneath from the two top threads?
@ShabbyFabrics

The bobbin automatically zig-zags underneath the two top threads! You will set your machine to a straight stitch :)

Do you think it would be possible to free motion quilt with this needle?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 жыл бұрын
While we haven't personally attempted free motion quilting with the twin needle, there doesn't seem to be a reason why it wouldn't work! We would suggest testing it out on a scrap quilt sandwich to see how it looks :)

It appears it does not matter which thread goes into which side. Is that correct?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 6 жыл бұрын
Correct :) You may have a project where you'd like a specific thread on one side and the other, but, it doesn't make a difference in the functionality!
