I am a newbee quilter. I have three friends that quilt and they have been trying to get me into quilting for about three years now. I recently updated my 35 year old sewing machine to a Singer Quantum 9960 with a lot of bells and whistles. I am from Canada but I am in Florida until the end of March and have already gone to two quilts shows and another on schedule for next week. I have seen so many beautiful quilts and smaller projects. I am amazed. Once I get some experience I would consider this table topper. Thanks.

@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
Hello! It's not too tricky with those points! We mitered the corners exactly like we would miter corners on a quilt, making sure we stopped 1/4" before we got to the edge of the topper. We folded the binding up and back down then started sewing 1/4" in from the edge. The angle is 120 degrees, the same as the setting triangles. Hope that helps!!

I am confused about the size of the strip set versus using the different lines on the ruler. So, the very first cut doesn't matter, but every one after that has to be the size of the width of the strip set (6-1/2"?).
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics Жыл бұрын
Hi littleluluscraps - Our sewing team answers this with, "Ruler instructions are: Wew six 1 1/2" fabric strips together to create a strip set that equals 6 1/2". The 1 1/2" will match the lines on the ruler. So, ALL cuts will be 1 1/2" " Hope this helps! -Michelle

I do love your tutorials and projects, always nice to see how someone else does things. I do have a question though. You spend so much time making it perfect and yet you are using the Frixion pens for marking. Are you not worried about the long term effects of the ink. I know you state that it is "removed" by the heat of the iron but it is not really removed. The ink is formulated with a thermal property that allows it to disappear with heat but come back with cold. If you want to test it just throw a quilt in the freezer for a while. Since it was not formulated/designed for use with fabric we don't know how it will behave in the long term. I know some people have had quilts ruined by the ink reappearing over time in normal room temperatures/conditions.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you for watching! We do appreciate feedback like this. We usually only use the Frixion pen to mark in locations on the fabric that won't be seen when the project is finished. Most of our marks are in seam allowances or on the back sides of our projects (like in this project). We certainly want to preserve our hard work, so we're careful with what we use. - Morgan
@lindamercer1736
@lindamercer1736 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think your work would actually get that cold though for the pen marks to reappear. I have never had a problem.

Why would you put your quilt in the freezer???
@mlromelfanger
@mlromelfanger 5 жыл бұрын
@@marykelly5457 I have heard stories of people moving in the winter and while out in the moving truck it was cold enough to make the lines reappear. (I think I also read a story along those lines of someone shipping a quilt for a show and again the lines appeared because of the temperature in the trucks.

Not getting the pattern yet. It is really neat, love table toppers. I am curious about one thing. With the binding, is it metered corners? If so, what's the angle?

Theyre 120° angles
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary! The angle is 120 degrees, the same as the setting triangles. I mitered the corners exactly like I would miter corners on a quilt, making sure I stopped 1/4" before I got to the edge of the topper. I folded my binding up and back down then started sewing 1/4" in from the edge. Thank you for watching! ~ Tammy

I'm working on this right now, I cut the strips like it says to and sew them at a quarter inch and it didn't messure up to six ana half...it measure six and quarter. What do I need to do? Need help please.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlida! It's important to sew with a scant quarter inch or press a little more carefully. Now that your strip set is together, you can starch and very gently coax or stretch your seams while ironing to get back the missing quarter inch. Please let us know if you have any other questions! Thank you for watching! - Sophie

I just bought this kit and I’ve cut my first three diamonds. All my diamonds are equal shape, but each one is a half inch total too wide (a quarter inch where the top isn’t sewn to anything and a quarter inch where the bottom isn’t sewn to anything). This means if I try to make the first hemisphere, my points line up in the center but then they don’t match up as the diamond continues.... help!
@ShabbyFabrics

Hi Megan! The 60° Diamond ruler includes the ¼" seam allowance so that extra ¼" on each side is for the seam allowance. Once the diamond is sewn on each side it will all line up. Let us know if you have any other questions! Stay safe! ~Leah

can this pattern be made with 2 1/2" strips
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Vera! We have not made this with the 2 1/2" strips as the ruler we used would be too small to cut the diamond shape. If you do use a larger ruler and make it with the 2 1/2" strips please send us pictures as we would love to see it! Happy New Year! ~Leah

How do you do the binding on the points?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! We are working on a tutorial for this answer, but the short answer is: since the angle for binding is 120 degrees, the same as the setting triangles, we mitered the corners exactly like we would miter corners on a quilt, making sure we stopped 1/4" before I got to the edge of the topper. We folded the binding up and back down then started sewing 1/4" in from the edge. Thanks for watching 💖 -Michelle

What is a friction pen
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 9 ай бұрын
Frixion is the brand of marking pen we use with projects- the ink disappears when it comes in contact with heat, so ironing over it makes the ink “disappear” :) You can view the 2-pack here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p29462 -Michelle

Could you not show a version where each section of white is 2 pieces and would then make each section a square sewn together?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question- You can create this project with that method, but please keep in mid that you would require a bit more fabric, and be sure to include a seam allowance when you cut the fabric down the middle. -Michelle

If you start sewing with your needle in upmost position and thread tails to the back of your machine, you will never need a starter piece of fabric with a Bernina. Any Bernina Educator will confirm this. Give it a try.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that tip! We like using the starter strip, but you can certainly do it without with your Bernina!

Why don't you just sew a 60 degrees triangle to the end of the strip set and eliminate those inset seams? Much easier and give a neater finish.. I made a table cloth with these diamonds years ago, and the inset seams are so horrible that it still Lies in the bottom of my cabinet. ..... I guess I have to rip it apart and do it all over again.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 5 жыл бұрын
The pattern that comes with the ruler uses inset seams, so we figured we'd show everyone how to do it exactly like the pattern requires so they could be successful! :) Thanks so much for watching. May be silly but in dilemma, my strip sets only measure 6.25 inches. Cant cut diamond with this width. Are you using 1/4” seam allowances to sew sets together?

My strip sets also measure 6.25” as well. Using 1/4” seam allowance and measured accurately after sewing the seams and pressing open. Does this mean that the diamonds should be cut at 6.25” instead of 6.5” ?

please stop calling them a diamond- it is a Rhombus. It confuses kids when we call them diamonds once they hit math- if you are talking cards- cool- but a mathematical shape - ie quilting- is a rhombus.
