Dude this is huge! I wasn't aware that the xcarve wasn't capable of doing this when I purchased my machine and was pretty bummed when I found out but this is a game changer now for me. Thanks to you and Ethan, you've opened a whole new world of opportunities for projects. I just noticed the app available today and can't wait to get started. Amazing work you guys. Thank you!

Absolutely my pleasure! The X Carve always had the capability to carve in true 3D, but you'd usually have to use Fusion 360 or similar. This app method isn't as precise as Fusion, but I've gotten good results with it. Thanks for the feedback!

It has- Go to Apps in Easel, and type Super Gradient Generator in the search box. Have fun!

Thanks for this great video! I’ve been leaning into your Luthiers Workshop Build Series. Your instructions are pragmatic and awesome!, Thanks! I realize this video is 4 years old, but I’m curious how smooth the cuts are with Super Gradient Generator in Easel Pro? Particularly interested in headstock face transitions for F style guitars. I’m just learning Easel and the current version now supports with importing 3D stl. / So I’m curious how Super Gradient Gen compares with curves generated from Rhino.
@TempleGuitars4 ай бұрын
Firstly, thank you for the lovely comment. As far as the generator is concerned, you can dial in your 'resolution', so how smooth it turns out is dependent on how long you feel like waiting for the process to take. Because the video is so old now, and because I use Fusion 360 for CAM operations (CAD in Rhino), I never actually tried using it in Easel Pro. I think it actually pre-dates that software! As always, I recommend grabbing some scrap wood and doing some experiments- it's free, so there's no downside to trying. I hope it helps you!
@ChinJazz4 ай бұрын
@@TempleGuitars Awesome, thanks for the ultra speedy reply :). When I began my CNC journey I dove right into Fusion 360 for CAD/CAM, and it was daunting! I've since switched to Rhino for CAD, and might just rely on CAM part of F360, but currently on the fence for that :).. Meanwhile, Ill try a scrap piece to test Super Grad Gen out.. Thanks again! Might you do an updated overview video of your current workflow?
@TempleGuitars4 ай бұрын
Fusion really is daunting. The intense learning curve of CAD and especially CAM is something many makers don't realise when they decide to go CNC. I've been trialling alternatives to Fusion for CAM, and I still haven't landed on a workflow I love, so I haven't done an updated video because of that.

I have been trying in vain to do this myself, thank you! BUT i am unable to intersect all as you show in the belly carve. I am left with just a VERY small piece to import that removes the outline of the guitar. Any ideas? The settings are exactly as you did them.

@TempleGuitars4 жыл бұрын
I haven't used it for that, so I'd just encourage you to have a play with it. Theoretically it should work, of course it depends on what kind of neck radius you're going for.

@Yosser703 жыл бұрын
@@TempleGuitars Good man :) I’m fine hand shaping the neck, it’s the fretboard that’s very critical. Even if you could get it really close with cuts along the length, so you only need a few passes with a radius bock to finish would be great!
@Yosser703 жыл бұрын
@@TempleGuitars Another thought. If you imported a curve around the flat area of a les paul top and one that matched the outside edge, could you generate a carve top? Ease in and out to get the right shape of curve maybe 🤔

Hi Jayszun I wonder if it is possible to create different radius blocks using this or the bezier slope generator? Or even using these to radius a fretboard? Any ideas or info greatly appreciated thankyou.
@TempleGuitars2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I haven't tried to do any of that with the generator, as I model in Rhino 3D. I basically came up with this app so people could experiment and see what they could come up with. If you get stuck and need something modeled in Rhino, let me know. I'm sure I can bang out a quick radius block or 2 for you.
@grandadsworkshop24552 жыл бұрын
@@TempleGuitars Hey Jayszun that is incredibly kind of you but I don't have Rhino3D. Just Easel and UGS so I don't know if I could run it?? I'm trying to learn how to draw and make a neck in Fusion 360. They all seem to be so fast and make it look so easy but my old brain is way back down the road, I thought a loft was a place in a barn where they kept hay 😂🤣. It seems to me that a Bezier slope generator could have the potential as it cuts downward in steps but I guess I'm looking for a solution that may be more complicated than it should be? Anyway Peace be with you my friend.

Here's one that is the right size. If you have a look around you may find one with the same features but a bit cheaper. Always go for lead screws, not belts.Make sure there is some mechanism in place to keep dust off the lead screws, and that it comes with an effective dust boot. www.prototools.co.uk/high-z-s-720-cnc-machine.html
