i've had the variable burnisher and card holder for years, never used them much and now they are in the same imaginary drawer as the LA block plane tote. i will look for them and try them again!

Thanks for the refresher- great info and very complete! I’ve been using these for years but it’s been awhile and I really needed this reminder, lots of great knowledge packed in here!- awesome 👏 👍

I bought the full Veritas scraping kit last year and was doing terrible. Can’t wait to try it again!

I was terrible at it when I bought that kit too but now it's so satisfying!!!

Again, Jamie good job explaining both tools. It was what I call down and dirty, a good thing. I did get a kick when you scraped your bench across the grain without raising sweet curls. I like your handles for the acu-burr. You think you might make a video demonstrating an easy method for those of us without a lathe set up? I bought the 1/4 inch one and 1/4 “ compression fittings. They sent 3/8” instead. Again I thank you 🙏

I actually just made a hammer handle this last week. I used files and rasps that's the first time I ever made a handle without the lathe. For the acubur, I would say take a blank and drill the hole first then shape away with files and rasps. Till everything fits the way you like. Then super glue or epoxy it together. I would love to make a video on it but I dont know how soon I'd get to it so I hopefully this helps in the mean time!

Thanks for another great video. How about the old burr. I have seen a lot of perseveration concerning removal of the old burr prior to establishing a new one.
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
Ah great point, if the old version is there rub it on a fine stone both sides then hit it with the 0 deg burnisher. I can't believe I left that out :( But.... I RARELY do that. Usually I just bernish again hahah

I think I found my problem, I didn't use ear oil! 😂 But seriously, I didn't try oil and I didn't start at zero degrees. I did prep the edge per Wood By Wright prior to using the burnisher.

Do you feel that the file guide is something you use often or do you just re-do the burr each time?
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
I use the file guage A LOT. For cards, saws, redoing the bevel on the scraper plane. I've used it on random things too anytime I need a 90 or 45 on metal I reach for it

Veritas solution is a great deal.

How would it work for a scraper plane, where the bladenis thicker?
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
It works with the thin Veritas iron, same with the thin Stanley, but it won't work on the thick Veritas or the thick LN irons.
@Steve-xt5gr Жыл бұрын
@BatCaveCreations thanks! Been wondering. Is there another option for frustration free burnishing of the thicker irons? Or is the accuburr the best?
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
@@Steve-xt5gr accu burr deff wins thay battle cus iron size doesn't matter lol

I have an older one with the wood body. Curious about what happens if I apply too much pressure while burnishing which is where I think I have been doing it wrong. I get a very slight burr which disappears quickly. One or two minutes of use. Using it to remove old varnish from an oak chair.
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
Are yiu working your way up in progression? How thick is the card?
@Hawkeyelaotzu Жыл бұрын
@@BatCaveCreations No idea of thickness. Progression! Right ! Forgot that and will try it now. LOL
@Hawkeyelaotzu Жыл бұрын
Worked better with progression. Got a cheap set I think from ROC. I guess that would be one reason for the burr not lasting. Thanks for the info.
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
No problem at all!!! I'm glad it helped, check out a diff brand where you can pick thickness that helps too. Less aggressive = thinner. More aggressive = thicker
@Hawkeyelaotzu Жыл бұрын
@@BatCaveCreations Pretty sure I'm doing an aggressive job with a too thin card. Really thankful that you go into all the detail in your videos. Helps a guy like me a lot.

I just watched this whole thing and have absolutely no idea what any of this is for. What are we burnishing? Why are we burnishing? Why are you scraping the wood?
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
Hey Maggy! Sorry this was more of a how to use the tool video, so it was geared to people that have one. This tool burnishes cards/card scrapers. They are thin pieces of metal that, once given a burr through burnishing, can be used to Scrape wood. Scrapping wood is helpful in crazy grain where you are getting tare out on a board. Some people like card scraping over a planed surface for finishing. It also helps to Scrape if the piece is small and a hand plane would be tough. Hope that helps
@JeffOldham-c5e Жыл бұрын
save your money,,,i have tried and tried and this will not put an edge on a scrapper reguardless of what they say on here
