@@WrightyFPL most of their speedrun openings can be done by force, bird/hippo etc. But Vienna requires the opponent to play e5, or its not the vienna at all.

This was helpful because it shows how to think about what the opponent is thinking even when the opponent is not great. I have trouble thinking about what my opponent is thinking when he is good enough to beat me, but not necessarily good enough to have "plans" that I should be anticipating and countering.

9:56 Sacrifice the white dolphin knight. C5 takes mate. Set up a dark square bishop reinforced attack on d6, queen. That puts you in control. Then you could pin the king at e8.

The Vienna is my favorite opening, by far. I don't play the gambit against >1000 elo players, though. They know what's up. I play Bc4. That is the way.

To be fair Aman does keep repeating that The Vienna is a good opening for beginners. Using it at a higher level is not recommended. It has multiple disadvantages which would be exploited mercilessly.

At 8:00 why not Bxc3 removing the defender of the pawn and then capturing it with the knight?

After Nxd5 Bf5+ forces the king to the e file and also opens up a discovered attack on the knight by the queen. So probably just Bf5+ Ke8 Qxd5 and ready for Rae1 soon. Edit, I guess the king can go to c6 to protect the knight, not forced to the e file. But then Nd4+ and either Kc5 walks into Ne6 or Kb6 is met with Qb1+, with the king really open checkmate is coming soon with the queen and knight.

Yes, black plays d5 and ends up in a pretty good place

Alex is playing the Vienna and scoring wins against 2000+ opponents. I realize that is low compared to you, but it's no 500. (And I think that d5 trap would've worked against a higher rated player. I'd've probably said, "Cool, free pawn!," and lost my knight.
