How to use the Yak Power on the Ascend 128T Kayak

Hey everyone,
We picked up an Ascend 128T Kayak with the Yak Power 5 channel system. When we first tried using the Yak Power system, and charging the battery we had some issues. In this video I’ll share with you what should be common sense, but I struggled with it. I hope you enjoy.

Thanks man. Just brought home a new 128X. Not sure where to start! But I got one 12 v. 7.5 ah battery for the Yak just to get started. I want LED’s inside and out. Looking at that power box though. Need to check out the Yak store. My first priority is to get a trolling motor rigged. Lots of work but will be fun.

Do you have to buy the yak power box or could I just get a small battery to hook up for a fish finder?

I see this video as a couple years old. I currently use an old town PDL 120 and I love it. However, I have come into a ascend 128T and I am just curious after two years what your thoughts are

Thanks for the comment Tim. I have sold this kayak as I developed a shoulder issue that made kayaking less enjoyable, but up till the day I sold it I was very pleased with the system.

I just got this yak and was wondering do I have tho but that box separately or is it suppose to come with it, mine didn't?

I'm not sure if it was supposed to come with the Kayak or not, truthfully. I would think it would be included if you purchased the kayak brand new. Does yours have the control panel mounted on it? Not all Ascend 128's are Yak Power equipped.

That yak battery box does not come with the kayak. You can buy it on Amazon for $100.

Does the yack power box fit in the front middle hatch just bought the same yack looking to buy the box if it will fit in the front hatch

Thanks for the message! Yes, if you're talking about the storage in between your front feet, that is exactly where I put mine. It makes it easiest to reach and fits in there with plenty of room. You do need to angle it into the space, but it goes right in. The alternative would be to put it in the larger box behind the seat, but I personally don't. I believe the battery and box are separate items, unless you happen to find a package deal. I hope this helps!

Is the Yak-Power unit still working? Mine stopped working after about a year(Outside the warranty). I was going to buy another from amazon but I started reading reviews and it seems others are having the same problem with the unit not lasting very long(approx a season or two).

Mine still works perfectly fine! Actually, my son is wanting to sell his kayak to fund a new mountain bike so this kayak will be for sale in NC.

Is that battery pack extra, I bought 128x and it doesn't have that battery pack box?

The battery pack is a part of the YakPower equipped 128T’s. If yours didn’t have the YakPower preconfigured you would not get this. Now, I’m not sure how yours was optioned and sold - I’d consider calling where you purchased it. That said, you can purchase all of the YakPower products and install them if yours isn’t equipped. Hope this helps.

Yeah I have the 128x it came with Yak-Power its actually the next model up from yours. It's 13' and 96lbs. Your model is 77lbs. and I have the cup holders and horizontal rod holders on each side with big cut outs to set your tackle boxes in. The horizontal holders on both sides lock in secure when you lay them in so if flips they aren't falling out. I wish the woulda put the motor mount on bow. That's what they did with the 133x, it's too much weight in back so I'm going to move my battery to the front to balance it out.

How did you connect your port 1 to the lowrance? Please get back to me as I have the same setup

Hi Charles, the control module has a wire leading to the Yak Power "Brain". From the brain, there is a wire that leads to the power supply. Also from the brain, are outputs to "1", "2", "B", "M" and "S". For mysetup, I have the wire going from "1" into the Lowrance. This is done by using a Yak Power adapter and splicing it into the Lowrance. I moved the lowrance to my other kayak, and just plug it directly into my 12v power source now. Thanks!
