@@TheLanguageTutor That words loss their tilde but they still have accent. For example: Canción (Aguda word in singular) : CANCIONES; can-CIO-nes (Turns into Grave or llana word in Plural) without tilde because now is Grave, not Aguda anymore, And as Robin said Grave words don't have tilde when they end with N or S. If the word turns into an esdrújula word it conserves its tilde/accent. For Example: Árbol (grave o llana word in singular): ÁRBOLES; ÁR-bo-les (now in plural it is an esdrujula word) And remember that they always have accent, no matter if they end with N, S or vowel letter. Hope you find it helpful.

Very good explanation indeed.But I just want to clarify one point where she generalizes it , saying all your conjugated verbs would be grave.I think that it works only for present tense conjugation only.Yo camino,Tú caminas ,Él camina,Nosotros caminamos ,Vostros camináis and Ellos caminaban.But it would not work for the Preterite tense like yo comí and el comió as these would be agudas.Please correct me if I am wrong.

First off great video. Second Robin is a great teacher. Third - I needed that topic covered. I do have a question and it’s based on how Robin pronounced ‘yo’. It sounded like ‘jo’. There are other youtube Chanels that definitely pronounce it as ‘jo’ and Danny I think that I hear ‘yo’ when you say the word. My in person spanish teacher told me it is definitely ‘yo’ and never ‘jo’ she is from Mexico but one of the other Chanel’s tat I listen too - Butterfly she is also from México but she definitely says and even emphasizes that it should be ‘jo’. Can you either tell me what is really to be done or maybe cover it in a video. Thank you.
@manus553
@manus553 4 жыл бұрын
Both are correct, depending on the country you're in. I have heard some Spaniards & some Colombians say "jo". I think Dr Danny has addressed this in another video. (It wasn't the topic of the video but he did touch upon this pronunciation.)

Why does “cómo” have a tilde? Isn’t it a grave word? As such, wouldn’t the first syllable be stressed anyway? Is there a category for words with unnecessary tildes?
@pedrodiezcansecomunoz9676
@pedrodiezcansecomunoz9676 Жыл бұрын
¡Saludos! :)

As a native speaker I find it curious how they teach this subject in reverse of how they taught it to me in school, but not in a wrong way. They explained to us that the classification into aguda, grave, etc. depends exclusively on the syllable on which the emphasis is placed. And that after having classified it, one must apply the inverted rules to know whether to place the check mark. For example, "árbol" has the emphasis in "ar" cause is a grave word, and because it ends with a consonant different from "n" or "s", it must have the tilde.

¿Qué hago si recuerdo la palabra pero no recuerdo dónde poner la tilde? ¿Comó sé qué palabras no siguen las reglas? Por ejemplo, La palabra "la cascara" I know there is a tilde on this word. Is there a way for me to know it should be "cáscara" if I can´t remember. Also, if I have only seen this word once and don´t remember it has a tilde, is there a way to recognize that it needs one?
