"Curva pelegrosa" this means dangerous turn in Spanish. I took my first road trip into mexico with two of my friends. As we were driving we kept seeing the same sign and wondered what it meant. After our car went off the road and we were stranded in a ditch we were looking in our spanish/english dictionary and learned that "curve pelegrosa" means dangerous turn. While we sat there stranded wondering what to do a huge bus full of soccer players stopped and the team got out and said "no problema" and lifted our little car back up on the road. So those are my two phrases. Congratulations on episode 80!

I started with Duolingo but I found the pronunciation very difficult to understand and repeating back very poor. simple thing like counting numbers it wouldn't move on saying I was pronouncing it wrong. I started with this a month ago and it's loads better.

I find Duo useful as a supplementary tool to assist with learning Spanish, definitely not a primary learning application.

One of my favourites is ¡Qué barbaridad! to say something is disgraceful. Haha my favourites have a negative theme this morning, I'm actually a positive person in a good mood!! 😂

@@TheLanguageTutor Just listened to another lesson. Good stuff man. I lived in Spain for 2 years as a young boy with my father being station at the Spanish/US Naval base in Rota. This was about 1963 and Franco was in power. English was not spoken in general so it was helpful to learn the language quickly. I picked it up rapidly and "saved" my parents on multiple occasions. My dad was an officer with base housing was encouraged to hire local house keepers. I will never forget Rosario screaming "Esteban, venga agui". She had asked my mother, " a que hora quiere comer?" My mom had answered "si". My Dad actually had a burro race off and crash in to his 1963 Chevy Impala which he had shipped over while we lived in Spain. When I listen to your lessons words pop up that I knew, but have forgotten.

In the Philippines, it's common to use "syempre" (derived from "siempre" or always) to mean "of course." Sometimes I find myself using "syempre" with my Spanish-speaking friends to mean "por supuesto" which is sometimes a point of confusion.

But I told my wife since I've been learning Spanish to get ready for a fight when I get sabbatical in a couple years. Because all I've learned are the curse words, like hijo de p***. I think it is mostly used in Spain (as also "venga") so that might be the reason it hasn't come up during these lessons as these are empathized toward latin america spanish. I love these lessons, I only wish there would be Castilian Spanish version where to learn that pronunciation and common phrases used in Spain :)

Look up Spanish With Pablo. He teaches Castilian Spanish. His manner of teaching bears no resemblance to Dr. Danny’s. If you want to actually See him, you need to look for the videos that are not presented in orange and yellow. Look for the ones that have him and the white background.

Hi Danny, great video series. I had a question though. I wanted to write "That's what he said." in Spanish and I wrote it as - "Esto es que él dijo." But when I checked online it's written as "Esto es lo que él dijo." As you would notice, There's an extra 'lo' in the correct one. Can you tell me why?

When finnished loading or unloading a truck my Mexican co workers would say "listo!" Saying it means ready or finnished like German "fertig" . Definitely latin america spanish, he has that "seseo" dialect where as in Spain they use "ceceo" dialect (difference is how they pronounce ci/ce and also gi/ge syllables)
