Something to note when placing traps is that if you have a representative of any other race visit the fort and they can clearly see the traps, they will be able to alert troops of the traps positions if you end up going to war with that race. Which renders them effectively useless. So it's always good to have a separate "trap hallway" and "trade caravan entrance"

I'm one of those that never got the appeal of the ascii art, randomly stumbled upon the Steam version and picked it up. I'm loving the game so far, steep difficulty curve, but your videos have been really helpful. Thanks!

dwarves can be trapped in cages if they are webbed by spiders or forgotten beast. If you set up a GCS to web a trap for you it can enable you to capture trap avoid creatures

If you are going for a weapon trap + pit fall for dodgers, having a lead floor instead of spikes might be better if the fall can be made longer as fall damage is calculated as the floor impacting against the creature. I feel like spike traps at a door would have good value for taking down door breakers, have a dwarf set to repeat pull the lever for it. =P Other spike traps I've seen use a mix of pressure plates and spikes spread around, so enemies triggering the plates causes all the spikes in the hallway to activate, then stepping on the plates again cause them to reset. With large attacking groups this looks like a good way to maintain fairly regular and non-jamming damage.

The good old Lead Floor Cheese ^^ I was also pondering the other day about a setup involving pressure plates and spear traps like you described. I agree to think it's most useful if the enemies activate the spear traps via pressure plates. You gave me some ideas with that staggered pattern, gotta do some dwarf science, thanks mate =)

@@Ic0nGaming Kruggsmash was who I saw implement it in an interesting way, bee themed as it was with his bee fort, honeystoker. He spaced everything out a lot so it looked nicer, honey comb pattern spike traps with engravings of bees. I've always been in favor of discs... something morbid about the cleanup afterwards... xD

Cage traps are so effective that they're borderline an exploit, imo :( Not only are they dirt cheap and pretty much oneshot any non-endgame threat, but it actually provides you with resources in terms of tameable animals. Thinking of crocs and jabberers especially.

webbed traps can even catch trap avoid creatures, they are insanely strong. Makes the other ones hardly even worth using given how resource intensive some can be.

I've heard that crossbow weapon traps never jam but do need ammo to reload them I wish crossbow traps could be used at range to shoot down hallways, but it doesn't sound like it works that way ☹️

Would have liked to see information about sticking a crossbow in a trap.. I can't even get my dwarfs to equip arrows half the time.. I don't even want to mess with archer traps until I see them..

Yeah, sorry for missing out on the crossbows, I noticed like 2 hours after publishing the video ^^ By the way: Arrows work only for Bows and can't be made by Dwarves (Loot/Trade only). Crossbows work only with Bolts and can be crafted. Maybe that's been an issue?
