A powerful, but underused feature of digital oscilloscopes is the trigger circuit. Learn from James how to use an oscilloscope’s trigger to find glitches, measure pulse widths, see transients, and stabilize a scope’s screen. This video explains the difference between Auto and Normal sweep modes, shows how to use a Pulse Width trigger, and explains how to use Hold-Off bit.ly/3yKeziE

James I absolutely LOVE the Workbench Wednesdays. Each one of them contains neat tips that everyone has "heard about" but isn't too certain about. As a student, I've found them exceptionally useful in giving me more tool confidence. Keep it up!

I would love to know your recommendation for the best quality scope an advanced hobbyist could shoot for. I've decided that I want 4 channels and probably 200MHz but there are names I run across when searching for such a scope that I don’t know much about such as Siglent, Rigol, Hantek, and Owon. Are any of these brands that you would steer clear of? If you were on a budget and could not afford the expensive brands such as the Rohde and Schwarz, what would be likely to look at? Thanks.

I don’t even know if my Hantek 6022bl even has a trigger, I have heck of a lot to learn. Now I’m retired I’ve plenty to keep my mind occupied. I’m definitely going to try the Arduino thing but with the cheap east oscilloscope outside the kits I’m not holding my breath.

@@stiaankruger2699 It’s not so much my budget as much as it’s a hobby to keep the brain working. I’m a boomer and I retired last Monday but I’ve made sure I have enough hobbies to keep me learning. Thanks again.

i have a 1980s analog no buffer no memory crt scope with a reliable very stable trigger, for christmas i treat myself to a hantek dso2c15 with a trigger choice of none or random guess mode.... at least i kept the old faithful

I normally love element14presents content. However, teaching on a Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscope that few of us will ever be able to buy or afford is pretentious, entitled and arrogant. Teaching on equipment the average person can afford makes much more sense for a channel like this. Please keep that in mind in the future. Additionally, teaching using equipment the average person can afford leads to greater levels if interest in your feed.

There really isn't much of a difference in Rigol or Siglent scopes.
