Years ago bike shops would have a block of French chalk partially powdered down for dusting patching's and inner tube fitting. There are also teflon powders and chalks that will do the job. Much friendlier than using strong surfactants ! I'm a Johnson & Johnson baby myself 😃

If you're like me and you missed the quick detail about the hook, it's at 1:01. The hook attaches to the nearest spoke to hold it in place. I never knew that either. This'll make tire repairs much less frustrating! Thanks!

I used to be proficient at mending roadside punctures but with puncture resistant tyres I hardly ever get a puncture now. The last time it happened the spare inner tube had worn itself out inside the saddlebag and I couldn't use it, which caused major problems. Thanks for the refresher course.
@reginaldscot1658 жыл бұрын
ha ha, spare inner tube had worn itself out inside your saddlebag? Really? Thats crazy! This was not a puncture in the end but a faulty air valve. ;)
@uphillfreewheeler8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it had been there for a couple of years and was wrapped in a very thin plastic bag and all the vibration inside the saddlebag had ruined it. I ended up wrecking the tyre to get home. I pay more attention to my repair outfit now!

It's good practice to try doing it with just your hands (so that you can do it at the side of the road quickly), it's possible to do it without a lot of effort. However, last time I needed to use levers, hmm.
@reginaldscot1652 ай бұрын
Yes I can do it with my hands, but that depends on the tyre and wheel, some are just too tight! 😅

If you've got a very tight tire, such as a tubeless tire, empty more air out, break the bead all around, and push the bead into the valley of the rim bed. This will significantly decrease the diameter of the tire you're pulling against.

Tip number 1 is bin the Park levers and buy some Pedros.
@PompeyCyclist8 жыл бұрын
You were quite lucky that when you were levering one end of the tyre back on, the other end wasn't coming off. That makes it a bugger.
@reginaldscot1658 жыл бұрын
"Buy" that costs money... And I'm part Scotsman! So why do you say that sir?
@PompeyCyclist8 жыл бұрын
Because they're 10 times better than any other tyre levers I've used. And I've snapped loads of Park ones.
@reginaldscot1658 жыл бұрын
+The Pompey Cyclist wow 10 times better! That's more than 9 times! Impressive, I had no idea that the sort of tyre levers you use are such big deal? Well, when I brake these levers and the other two sets of cheaper ones I have then I will buy some Pedros... But don't hold your breath because I have not broken any in 15 years.😊 Thanks for the tip anyway. 👍🏻

Dude the amout off force you need is ridiculous your doing it wrong! Deflate the tire completely press the tire together to the center of the rim to get it loos from the rim then stick in the tire lever put it on the spoke and go around the tire again with thumb and index finger compressin the tire and move it to the center of the rim all around when the tire is centerd pop in the second lever zero force required to take the tire off now because you made space by centering the tire in the midd of the rimm.

Who taught him how to use tyre levers. Never saw anyone struggle and do it so wrong. Start at the valve to to remove the tyre and finish st the valve when fitting. Done properly you don't even need levers. Washing up liquid don't dry and could cause the tyre to creep under braking I think I'll have a look at his other vids for more laughs
@reginaldscot1654 жыл бұрын
Great comment! Self taught if I remember? It's been many years. Never had a problem using washing up liquid but I must admit I don't need it now days, running a bike shop I'm able to get a tyre on and off in seconds now. But I'd love to see how you do it better, we could all benefit from your experience, why not upload a video of how it's done and post the link here. 👍🏻 Thanks and safe riding 🙂
